Years ago, a neighbor mentioned to me a "secret" treatment she had for her dogs' coat, which kept it smooth and shiny. "Oh yeah?", I asked, "what would that be?". "Well", she continued, "don't tell anyone, but I use Avon Skin So Soft on my dog to keep his coat silky smooth". I couldn't believe it, an Avon beauty product on a dog?! What was she thinking? Well, it wasn't more than a few weeks before I ordered a few bottles of this "wonderproduct" for my own poochies, as it was that good.
Made by Avon, Skin So Soft (SSS), is a oil-based moisturizer, similar to baby oil in texture and consistency, and comes in a four ounce spray bottle. The retail price (available from Avon dealers or Avon.com) is $6.00. When I bought my "supply" of this a few years ago, it was available in eight ounce bottles, so I am not sure if the larger size is still available. SSS is probably one of the best oil moisturizers that I have tried, but I tend to reserve it for my dogs.
What? You use this on your dogs?! - Uh, yes. Believe it or not, this stuff works wonders on their coats to keep them silky shiny and moist. Plus, SSS makes my dogs smell as though they just stepped out of the shower: fresh and clean, even though they just trampled through the mud. I use SSS right after bathing my dogs and about once a week afterwards, to keep away the "dog" smell and as far as having an adverse reaction or problems, in the 10 years I have been using this on them, there has not been one.
Keep in mind that I only lightly spray SSS on my dogs, meaning one or two pumps of the spray and then rub the oil into their coats (I also have short haired dogs, so I can't say how well this product would work on a dog with a longer coat). I know that dogs do have a "natural" way of keeping their coats moist, so I don't want to overdue it. SSS has reasonably "normal" ingredients, such as mineral oil, fragrance, lanolin, as well as some other items, that are extremely gentle on the skin.
Okay, but are their any other uses? - Oh my, yes. Besides being a wonderful skin moisturizer for humans with a great scent, SSS works well as a bug repellent and can also be used to remove stubborn price tags off of glass or plastic. It also works great as a flea repellent on dogs, as the fleas don't like the smell and taste of SSS when they bite the dogs' skin.
What I don't like - The only thing that I don't like about this product is that it is a bit greasy, as it is an oil-based product, so I tend to use it sparingly after a shower, and wipe the excess oil on my hands off on a towel. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints, as this is truly a wonderful product, for both humans and especially dogs.
Overall, I highly recommend SSS as a skin moisturizer for humans and canines. As I mentioned, I haven't had any problems with this product on my dogs, and it works wonders when I want to "freshen them up" without the hassles of running a bath and bathing them. Plus, it makes them smell great, like they just stepped out of the doggie spa.
As always, thanks for reading
