Magick1's Full Review: Avon : Ultra Luxury Eye Liner
Avon is known for quality cosmetics and they keep trying to think creatively. I don’t know if any of you saw something a while back or not, but you cannot find it now. But, Avon had out an instant manicure. You could select the color, obviously order it and you would get a sheet that had the fingers “printed” or painted on templates. You took off the appropriate finger, sealed it to your fingertips, cut off the excess and viola, you had instant manicure no drying required. Well, they keep trying to think up new stuff. Well, after all of this hullaballoo, I should tell you, that eye line generally is just that…eye liner. I don’t know of many differences other than liquid or pencil liner.
I used to actually just use the eye shadow and take the firm tip or end of the brush and run it under my lashed on the bottom line. Gave me color, defined my eyes and I did not have to have another item to carry around (and, it matched perfectly). Now, I find that I am using liner again, because it’s on sale and I am kind of skipping the powder. (Although, I do still try some powders or eye shadows then and again.)
The Product
This is a standard pencil liner with the slender pencil style. The actual liner is roughly 5 inches long, encased in a sleek black looking pain with silver writing. I am not sure exactly what is considered “luxury” about the liner itself. It has a sleek look to it, is capped so that you don’t ruin the tip and you can get a very fine tip for lining your eyes.
The colors are basic: black, charcoal, dark brown, eggplant, khaki and midnight blue
The price, can be considered on the high end if you don’t get it on sale. I think it’s around $5 for the pencil. You get 1.14 gram of product and the pencil itself is only about .04 of an ounce…so you won’t even realize you are carrying it as it’s such an insignificant weight!
The color I recently selected was eggplant, as I have cool skin tones and I got a shadow that I purchased a while back was a series of violet shades. The liner does give you a really crisp line, doesn’t tug or drag against the skin when you are lining your eyes. It’s super simple to use. (Liquid liners I usually don’t have a steady enough hand to use..these, not a problem.)
The liner rubs on easily and it cleans off easily if you do make a mess (say your little one walks into the room, you turn abruptly and create a path across your face as you forget to pull up the pencil). Can’t say that’s never happened in my household!
If you enjoy “blending” or softening the lines, you can easily tweak the pencil line with a pinky finger to smudge the line and make it less pronounced. (Or, for those die hard individuals that line the inner lid above the lashes…it’s thin enough to successfully do that as well.)
This is very easy to sharpen as well. But, be sure you use, or have, a smaller sized eye liner pencil sharpener. I find that the regular pencil sharpeners seem to be too deep and does seem to mess up the pencil somewhat (or maybe it’s just me). It kind of chunks out in the bigger pencil sharpeners and it’s quite a pain in the tush.
My skin seems to be drier and I am not sure how lasting the color and liner might be if you have an oilier skin. In the summer, I usually find it doesn’t seem to last quite as long as in the winter when my skins the driest. I don’t know if it’s the humidity or if my skin seems oilier and that is what is impacting the liner or not. So, if you want dawn to dusk coverage, this might not be the best option. It seems to fade a little during the day, especially when it’s hot outside and my skin is more sweaty or oily.
Overall Impressions
As mentioned, I truly don’t know what makes this a luxury named eye lining pencil. It seems just like virtually 100’s of pencil type eye liners on the market. Admittedly, it does not seem to tug like some brands do when I put it on my eyes. But, I really haven’t come across a ton of pencil liners that do that, unless they seem to be more liquid based (or as I call them waxy). This is smooth, gives a decent color and does stick around for quite a while without fading or disappearing.
The price, original, is a bit high, but you can usually get a good sale: that is when to buy it. The color selections are nice, rich and look good. The khaki is a mellow kind of a green rather than a brown if that is what you are looking for as well. It’s a good neutral tone, but not what I envisioned. You have some really great colors, a liner that doesn’t pull against your skin or even miss or skip a beat. It gives a good line and seems to hold color pretty well. It’s a decent product and I would buy more in the future.
