dtskiles's Full Review: Aware Premium Plus Rabbit Hutch Medium
We bought this at a large pet-store chain for two mini-rex rabbits.
What's nice: 1. Easy to assemble. All the parts were well marked, well packed and well prepared. No mis-aligned holes and the instructions were well written. It took about 15 minutes to assemble. 2. Weather durable. It's been 3 months and from the outside it looks like new. 3. Locking roof. This makes it so much easier when we're cleaning the hutch or putting the rabbits back. I can lift the lid and it stays up until I bump the latch. 4. Sliding tray. If I have to bring them in the garage on a cold night, they won't mess all over the floor.
What could be improved. 1. We want to remove the tray to let the droppings collect on the ground, but that leaves the grate exposed, and our dog accidentally bumped the grate up and got his head in the hutch. More screaming than harm done, but if it had been an aggressive animal, we'd have a problem. I would add a rail or something to lock the grate down. 2. Metal edging on exposed trim/railings inside the hutch. Rabbits will chew ANYTHING, and they're slowing disassembling the cage. I had to put flashing trim over parts of the hutch to keep them from tearing it apart. 3. Move the front door or eliminate it entirely. You HAVE to put the water bottle over the door, there's no other place. It takes up the entire front of the cage. 4. I'd like metal on the bottom 3-4 inches of the legs. Outdoor hutches have ant issues, and I'd love to put the legs in a small tin of water to keep the ants from climbing the legs. But the wood legs would rot. 5. Right size. You'd think we need a larger hutch, but the rabbits are social, and enjoy each other's company. It's about the size of a small gas grill, so for winter months, we can use a cheap grill cover with some slots to cover it during cold weather.
