Pros:Brings quick relief, non-addictive, helps me breathe and moisturizes the nose
Cons:Expensive, $8 for a small bottle
The Bottom Line: This stuff works. Much easier than a Netty Pot and safter than a decongestant.
For the past few years I have been suffering with sinus and ear infections. After treating me for a year, my family doctor ordered a CAT scan of my sinus cavity to be sure there were no underlying problems. My scan was normal, so the next step was to see an ENT (ear, nose & throat specialist).

My ENT did get my infections under control, but he did so by having me use a steroid nasal spray (Omnaris) every day, as well as using a nasal rinse with a bottle (Neil Med). As much as the nasal rinse helped, I hated the process. I also don't like taking any kind of steriods on a daily basis, (although I was told they are not systemic, meaning they treat the local area only and would not contribute to bone loss like other steroids).
Since I knew the saline nasal rinse helped, I decided to try a new product made by Ayr, called a saline nasal spray. If you have ever been addicted to decongestant nasal sprays (as have I), you might appreciate the relief a saline spray can give. It is not addictive and can be used to moisten and soothe dry and stuffy noses. The box says it can be used "As often as needed".
Ayr Saline Nasal Gel No Drip Sinus Spray is a wonderful product for those with allergies or colds! It comes in a .75 ounce spray bottle that looks much like any other nose spray bottle, but with little tabs on each side of the tip. It needs to be primed just like my bottle of Omnaris. After the initial priming, it works perfectly each time. I only spray once in each nostril, and although it is a gel it sprays out a fine mist and doesn't run back out of my nose, and it doesn't run down the back of my throat like Afrin nasal spray sometimes can.
Saline nasal sprays can really be very effective! We've been using a similar product on my 18 month old granddaughter called "Little Noses". She has had several colds this winter, and when she can't breathe well she actually brings me the bottle and wants me to put some of the saline solution in her nose! (Smart girl).
I've been at both ends of the spectrum with sinus pain. I've been addicted to decongestant sprays, and I've tried the prescription steroids such as Omnaris. Ayr makes a great product, although it is a bit expensive. It brings me relief within minutes, and it helps moisten my nasal passages without using alcohol. I love that it brings me relief and that I don't have to worry about becoming addicted to it. The process is much faster and easier than doing a nasal rinse with the Netty Pot or bottle. Ayr gets two thumbs up from this allergy sufferer!
