Loris Azzaro Onyx 1.7oz Men's Eau de Toilette

I'm in the mood to review some of the perfumes I have tried and although I'm consumed by CK and ISSEY MIYAKE these days due to their subtle cool fresh fragrances I also very vividly recall the ONYX by Azzaro which I used a few years back.

Here's how I came across it. I had not heard of Azzaro before but while just walking past the perfume aisles at Macys New York one salesperson was helping out another customer to choose a product. I literally stopped in my tracks coz I was getting the most unbelievably good smell right from that counter. After rather anxiously waiting for that customer to disappear I stopped by to get a go at the perfume strips that the salesperson enthusiastically shoved at me. I cannot recall what other perfume she presented to me but the overwhelming smell of Onyx by Azzaro was the only one I needed to sample. She offered me a tiny tester to take home. Instead I bought the ONYX by Azzaro 50ml bottle...testing time was over and it was time to smell great! Along with the perfume I also bought the roll on deo stick. 

Bottle design
The design of the bottle is not outstanding but masculine.  Its a black color solid ceramic like structure with angular sides and a thin strip of silver metal running just below its large cap. The bottle is wide and the angular sides make it a bit difficult to hold. Its spray nozzle remains the standard small size. The reason for most perfumes to have the standard spray nozzle is to ensure only the right amount of liquid gets sprayed out when you press the nozzle. After a few months unfortunately for me the bottle slipped out of my hand and fell on the floor. The spray nozzle and a bit of the bottle near the nozzle broke off. So I had to proceed with the old fashioned way of dabbing it it my palm or wrists. (The reason for slipping out of my hand is due to due its wide design which makes the bottle difficult to hold and spray.) 

Usage tips
Unlike most perfumes I have used where I spray about 4 times to get enough smell to get going ONYX by Azzaro is good with a maximum of 2 sprays. The smell is great and can be over powering if used a lot. And again unlike most other perfumes which I spray on my clothes to get a longer lasting effect, I use ONYX by Azzaro on my wrists and then brush the wet wrists on my neck or behind the ears. It saves a few extra sprays and still have enough fragrance to last a day easily! Yeap I can repeat that all day long...ONYX by Azzaro will last the longest time and if you apply in the morning it will still smell the same in the evening. 

Fragrance
Here's a bit about its fragrance. Im really bad with defining what notes are prominent in the perfume so according to the manufacturer its a mixture of green apple, bergamot, green lemon, coriander, cardamom, caraway, juniper, cedar wood, and musk. For me I wouldn't say this is woody at all. I dont like woody fragrances nor do I like sharp spicy fragrances. The smell is definitely fresh and maybe citrus like fruity. Whatever it is exactly the smell is absolutely out of this world. And I repeat it can be overpowering so use very moderately. The bottle will last quite a long time due to this. 

All my workers comment on the delightful smell when I wear it and even had one female worker buy it for her husband as a birthday gift. Such was the attraction of the ONYX by Azzaro.
