Shopping around, I looked at various ways to connect your MP3 player to speakers. I have a nice set of speakers, unfortunately with no hesdphone jack so I can connect it. I found various ways...you could connect it to speakers, but I already had speakers and it costed $100. There were cassette adapters, I could use it since the speakers can work on my microsystem which has a cassette player, but I was afraid that it would give out poor sound quality. So I looked at the FM transmitters, and bought this one from it's low price. I wish I would've looked around more or bought a cassette adapter.

FM Transmitters

FM transmitters are devices that plug into anything that gives out sound with a 3.5mm plug. You put them on a radio station that isn't broadcasting and you will hear sound on the station within some kind of distance.

Sound Quality

The sound quality is pretty good. I got all the low and high ends working, and no of the sound was lost. There was no hiss sound at all. I tried all kinds of music and heard no differences or drop in sound quality.

Fuzz

Overall the fuzz on the transmitter was completely unacceptable. The package claims 30 feet but I was luckily if I even got five. I tried a lot of frequencies and most of the frequencies and most of the good ones are on the low end 88-91, but again I only got around 5 feet and the fuzz started pouring in like crazy. I haven't tried this in a car but my guess is that the range will be even less since its surrounded by the car's steel and the antenna is on the outside of the car. Overall the fuzz was unacceptable.

Design & Features

It has a few features but none of them improve it's quality. It has a four station memory so you can keep all of the better frequencies in memory. It has an auto-shut off. The transmitter will shut-off automatically when it is silent for 60 seconds. As far as design, it's a small oval-ish and thin transmitter. I wasn't too impressed with durability, the plug started breaking from the cord only after some months. Nor was I impressed with battery life, I only got around 6 hours on alkaline and roughly 8 on rechargeables. It takes 2 AAA batteries or a 12.0V adapter (seperate purchase). I tried using it with the adapter, but for some reason I got a hiss somewhere in the bass area.

Price

I think if my memory is accurate I paid somewhere around $35 for this. Overall, I think it should be around $15. The sound was good, but what's the use if it has poor battery life, poor durability, and static?

Bottom Line

I recently bought a Sony cassette adapter (CPA-9C), there was a slight hiss but it wasn't very noticeable when my music as loud. It doesn't require batteries, has good sound, good durability, and I can have my player as far away from the speakers as I want. Overall, I would recommend a cassette adapter (cheaper) or a more expensive transmitter, not one that deserves to be casted into an ocean!
