| pkdaveyboy's Full Review: Beltronics Vector 960 Radar Detector |
I recently purchased my Bel 960 and am the happiest that I have ever been with a radar detector by my side! I have had numerous radar detectors over the years, old and new Escort's, old and new Passport's, Bel radar detectors (when they were called Bel MicroEye), Uniden, Whistler, and Cobra.
This is hand's down, the best detector I have ever experienced. My 2 favorite things about the Bel 960, are the 1)Tech Mode and 2)Autoscan. I will only use the detector in Tech Mode, as it gives the actual frequency being received. This is very helpful in determining actual radar being used by the police. I also recommend the Autoscan, which is a "no-hassle" way of weeding out the non-radar signals. I live in Indiana, and X, K, and Ka bands are being used by police in and around the Indianapolis area. I have to experience Laser or photo Ka radar.
The X-band frequency is 10.525 and the K-band frequencies are 24.125 and 24.150. When it comes to Ka-band, the frequencies (non photo radar) are as follows... 33.300 which is the Genesis II series radar, the VERY POPULAR 33.800 which is the Bee 36 radar. The 34.700 and 34.940 is the Stalker ATR gun. The Stalker ATR gun also has a frequency hopping gun that jumps between 34.200 and 35.200.
The photo radar bands that are out there (which I have yet to encounter) are the 33.400, 34.300, and the 34.600 bands.
Keep in mind that these frequencies aren't always accurate as the radar guns can be "fine-tuned or allowed to fall out of correct tuning frequency." But so far, all of the time, if it was not one of the previous frequencies, then it is a false alarm.
Also, this is the LOUDEST (when it comes to alarms) and the QUIETEST (when it comes to false alarms) that I have personally ever seen!
FWIW, this Bel 960 has a better frequency performance graph than even the more expensive BEL at http://www.beltronics.com/graphnamerican.html
Best of luck to all, but this is the best radar detector, imo.
