How can you tell if the 985 model you have or are purchasing has POP detection (or not)? Any way to know?

I agree both are simular in performance, but BEL 985 doesn't pick up K Band radar over hills as well as the Escort 8500. BEL 985 is the fastest at Ka instant-on radar especially if you use the AccuSweep feature the newer BEL 985 and new Escort 8500 can detect the new POP Mode on the MPH BEE 3 radar system, which can't be detected by most radar detectors. Both units are great.

Both Escort and Bel has merged into one company. Bel and Escort has best detectors in the world. I have an escort 8500. My friend has a bel 985. We fight over who is better but you know what we put them in our cars and guess what, they went off at the same time. If I could get another detector I would get a Bel 985 not a valentine. I'm all about the text display. I wish my detector had voice alerts. I like how the visor and window mount is one clip. THAT IS SO COOL!!. I like both detectors. Drive Fast, But safe.
