| bollockybill's Full Review: Beltronics Vector 985 Radar Detector |
I purchased the 985 in January 2003, and up until this month(10/03)it has performed flawlessly. I like the fact that it is so programmable. After about a month I turned the x-band off because I have yet to see a cop use x-band in Illinois.
Most cops in the states I have driven use K or Ka, which the 985 gives ample warning. I can't comment on the sensitivity of laser because I have yet to come across it, although it's nice to know if I encounter laser the 985 should pick it up. I only hope it will pick it up in time.
The only problem I encountered with the 985 is that the audio warning stopped working. This is a huge problem considering that without an audio warning, the radar detector is useless.
I sent in the unit to Ohio for repairs but the idiots at UPS lost the shipment(Thank God for Insurance). I now have check for $300 and am in the market for another detector. I have been considering the Passport8500 or another Bel-985. I've decided to get another 985 because I am familiar with the unit, it costs about $50-$75 less than the 8500, and most comparison tests rate them equally. My only hope is that the faulty speaker in my last unit was only a fluke of bad luck.
