| Cope's Full Review: BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO Truck/SUV Tire |
I drive an '88 Ford Bronco II, and I take it off road quite often. The 30" x 9.5" BFG AT T/A KO's that I have on it take everything I throw at them in stride. They grip pavement relatively well, and they grip just about everything else incredibly well. Dirt, mud, and snow are absolutely no problem, especially with 4WD. A 40mph 4WD romp down a dusty dirt road feels exactly the same as a 40mph 2WD romp down a paved road. This is due almost entirely to the tires.
Most tire manufacturers have some kind of "AT" tire. Most of these tires, however, don't handle unpaved surfaces any better than non-AT tires. Most major auto manufacturers make an SUV. These SUVs supposedly can go off road, but tire manufacturers are fully aware of the fact that these trucks seldom leave pavement. So most of the "AT" tires out there are merely street tires with high profiles (distance between the rim and the outside of the tire). The BFG AT T/A KO completely breaks this mold. The treads on these tires are aggressive enough for great traction on just about every surface, but without the road noise of "Mud Terrain" or other purely off road tires.
They are also one of the only tires I've seen with treads actually ON the sidewall for traction in mud or sand.
I got a set of four BFG AT T/A KOs mounted on my truck for just shy of $500, which is actually cheaper than some of the "Fake AT" tires, such as the Goodyear Wranglers or the Bridgestone Duelers.
