| openroad's Full Review: BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO Truck/SUV Tire |
I am currently using a set of 32"x11.5" 15 BFG AT/KO tires on my Isuzu Rodeo SUV. They have been an excellent set of tires for me and have received many compliments from people on how they look.
I have put over 11,000 miles on this set, and they still have no noticeable tread loss even measured with a tread depth gauge. They are only a mid-pack tire as far as mileage on a set... 40K miles or so to be expected from a set. That isn't important to me, you pay for long life with harder compounds which slip more and grip less.
Here is what BFGoodrich has to say about this tire:
All-new version of America's best all-terrain tire. ShoulderLock Technology. Even more go-anywhere traction, durability. Exceptional treadlife. Same great looks. Industry-first on-/off-road assistance program, if you get stuck, we'll send a truck. Meets RMA definition for passenger and light truck for use in severe snow conditions. TriGard® construction for serious durability.
Latest generation of America's best all-terrain tire
TriGard® construction
Excellent traction and handling on- and off-road
I had these tires siped when I purchased them, and that has helped the excellent wet weather and snow traction even more. The way this tire performs off road is exceptional, especially in sand and dirt of all types. They float very well over the deepest sand (unless you have a heavy fullsize truck) and keep most midsize SUVs and Pickups crawling though spots that would leave you pulling out your cell phone on stock tires. Want more traction? Lower the tire pressure to 14 and climb some more. Make sure to have a way to inflate before getting back on the highway though. The one drawback of this tread design is mud. The great sand flotation and highway ride leads to a tighter tread pattern that grabs mud and holds it in. You CANNOT get these tires to shed mud by spinning them free. If you need to get through a boggy section you need speed or you better have a friend nearby. This complaint isn't a big one, if you need that much mud traction get the excellent BFG Mud Terrain/KM and pay the price of more noise and slightly rougher ride.
The road ride is wonderful for a semi-aggressive treaded tire. It's whisper quiet and it handles great in hard cornering when inflated correctly. Only when pushed quite hard do they show signs of sidewall rollover, and you will hear the side lugs start to howl.
I would give these tires a perfect 10 for almost every truck/SUV owner. Unless you are on a very tight budget (BFG is on the expensive side) or have need of a "pure" mud tire, this is the rubber for you. Most people I talk to in the parking lot, gas station, etc. with upsized tires only buy them for looks. ATs look great and don't have the liveability problems you get with a "Bogger" mud tire. Also, they are much safer in emergency maneuvers and winter conditions.
