About Me: Time for something new.

Blackstone Triple Super Switch - Makes my life just a little more convenient!

Written: Dec 25 '09
Pros:Works flawlessly every time.  Extremely convenient.
Cons:Would be better, if it came with two remotes.
The Bottom Line: At around $20, this is a very inexpensive way to add a whole lot of convenience to my life!

Sometimes you want to be able to control various lights and appliances, at the touch of a button, without moving.  That's the theory behind Blackstone's Triple Super Switch.  A single remote control, with three separate buttons, lets you control three different outlets.

The three outlets plug into any standard household outlet, and take a standard plug for an input.  Simply plug your lamp or your appliance into the outlet, turn its buttons to the 'on' position, and it will be controllable from the remote.  The three outlets are labeled 1 to 3 and come pre-programmed to respond to the remote's three buttons.  So, button number 1 controls outlet number 1, etc.

The remote's range is listed as 60'. In my experience, it works perfectly, even through doors and walls.  As a result, I can control a lamp in the living room, a radio in the bedroom, and a fan in the family room without moving an inch.  Other terrific uses: keep the remote control in your garage, and turn on indoor lights before you walk into the house.  Or, turn on a bunch of outdoor lights from the comfort of your living room.  This device has great seasonal uses, too.  Controlling all of your Christmas lights, for example.

The remote takes a single 12V battery, which was included.  The buttons are sturdy and there's an audible 'click' letting you know that it's been pressed.  There's also a red light that flickers letting you know the signal's been sent.

The outlets are a little bigger than I'd prefer.  I insert them into the upper plugs of my outlets, leaving the lower plugs free for small cords, although large power adapters won't be able to fit.

There is a manual switch on each of the outlets.  So, if your remote is in the garage, but you want that indoor lamp lit, simply use the manual switch on the outlet's face.  A convenient red indicator light on the outlet lets you know, at a glance, it's "on" or "off".

I love this system, and enjoy the many different ways it can be used.  But I wish it came with an extra remote control.  I'd love to have one remote in the garage, and the other somewhere in the house.  That would provide the ultimate in control.  Instead, if I want to control the lights from inside the house, I'm forced to use the outlet's manual switch, which isn't very convenient since it requires access to the wall.

Still, for my purposes, this product has been wonderful.  It works flawlessly every time, and makes life just a little more convenient.
