dbirchall's Full Review: Labtec spin™ 45 2 Speakers
A few months after picking up a pair of inexpensive Creative SBS-10 speakers to use at work, I was issued a laptop by my employers, and decided I wanted audio at home, too. Heading off to the local computer store, I was amazed to see that for not much more than I'd spent on the non-powered, bass-deprived SBS-10 speakers, I could get honest-to-goodness powered speakers with some concept of bass!
The Spin 50 (a.k.a. LCS-1050) speakers are among Labtec's smallest speaker models, and probably its cutest. Their rounded shape resembles an egg, and each one will easily fit anywhere you've got a space about four inches square to spare. But despite their small size, the Spin 50 speakers serve up a good set of features, including:
AC adapter
Volume control
Bass port
Headphone jack
The bass port isn't just for show, either. While these don't have anywhere near the bass response you'd get from larger speakers or a system with a woofer or sub-woofer, the sound isn't tinny like it is on some cheaper speakers (the SBS-10 speakers I have at work have very little bass response, if any).
I've been using my pair of Labtec Spin 50 speakers for half a year or so now, and am pleased enough with them that whenever I walk through a computer store, I have to fight the urge to buy another pair to use at work! Someday, I'll give in.
I'd recommend Spin 50 speakers as an ideal first set of speakers for a computer. They deliver a good set of features at a very appealing price.
