| darogers's Full Review: Labtec spin™ 45 2 Speakers |
Ive had my Labtec speakers for five years now and Ive really enjoyed them. Of course, theyre easy to install (just plug in the power and the line cords) and have a small enough footprint (about 4 sq. inches each) that they stay out of the way. The AC adapter is a bit bulky so it covers two outlets. This is probably a small problem in the eyes of Labtec but for those of us with limited outlets by our computer, its something to consider.
Ive really come to appreciate the headphone jack in the front of the speakers. I work in an office so its often necessary to plug in my headphones so I dont disturb those around me; the front jack makes that easy. Even when using headphones, you can still use the volume control (unlike some of the HP speakers which require you to use software controls).
The speakers come with an extremely long cord. I first thought it would be cumbersome because its so long, but Labtec included a wire wrap under the speaker for keeping the excess cord out of the way. This is something they didnt have in their older models. Ive used my Labtec speakers with several different computers and the sound quality is always good. I say good because these are 2 inch speakers so youre not going to get professional sound quality, but for typical computer use, theyre more than adequate.
The only problem Ive encountered with the speakers is the volume knob. After four years of use, the knob started to develop dead spots. Now there are total dead spots and spots where just one of the speakers will cut out. This wasnt a problem until recently, as its gotten worse. I think this is a fairly common problem with Labtec speakers because its happened in the previous 2 sets Ive owned. There are no care instructions for the speakers so Ill probably try to disassemble them to fix the problem. In the end though, I expect most people will just buy a new set after 5 years.
