It did not take our dog long to discover that the area within a three foot radius of the highchair is prime feeding grounds. Much to her dismay, we bought a Baby Bjorn bib. Long gone are her days of feasting upon meat sticks, diced carrots and sliced bananas.
The baby bjorn bib is different from cloth "crumb catcher" bibs that are easy to find in any baby department. The Baby Bjorn bib is made of a pliable plastic. The bottom is molded into a scoop shape. The scoop is permanently open, unlike the pocket on cloth crumb catcher bibs, so it effectively catches most dropped food. Just think ~ you can walk away from your table at the restaurant with your head held high. No more exiting in shame hoping that no one notices that the floor under your table looks like a feeding trough.
Clean up could not be easier. Food is easily cleaned out from the scoop part of the bib. I clean the bib then with a wet dishcloth and dishwashing liquid. The bib also keeps the highchair and the floor a lot cleaner.
I consider this bib to be a baby essential. It is great to use as soon as babies begin to feed themselves. Although the bib is not cloth, it has no sharp angles that could poke or scratch baby. My daughter never complained and it seemed to be very comfortable for her.
Comparatively with other bibs, this bib is over priced at a cost of $7. However, it works a lot better and is worth the extra expense. It is available in red, pink, blue and yellow. The bib is pretty durable and one will most likely last as long as you need it. The latch area may eventually break, but after much use.
We have had difficulty finding this bib in stores. They do not even currently have it at the local Babies R Us store. It can be purchased online, however.
I would highly recommend this bib. It definitely makes meal time much easier.
