The Bottom Line: Although expensive, I definitely recommend this mobile to parents decorating their nursery in the coordinating theme; it ties the entire room together and the sweet melody never gets old.

Those of you who have read my other reviews (thank you very much!) may remember my raving over the John Lennon Real Love crib bedding that we chose for our daughter's nursery - and the myriad accessories available that compliment her bedroom perfectly. The Musical Mobile by Baby Boom is just one of the accessories that I absolutely *had* to have...
My Confession
You may also remember seeing mentioned how very pricy the John Lennon accessories can be - this particular mobile, purchased new, would have set us back $39.99 at Babies R Us. Knowing that a) mobiles don't generally get much wear and tear and b) the likelihood of having had someone else's infant slobber all over it were minimal, I decided to instead to purchase our mobile through (gasp!) eBay. I paid just under $25 (including shipping) for a mobile that appears to have just been removed from its original box and works wonderfully. Just a tip for the price-conscious among us...!
Assembling the Mobile
Our mobile arrived in five pieces - the clamp, the arm, cloth arm cover, music box and canopy with attached animals. Even without the instructions that come with a brand new mobile, assembly was a definite no-brainer...
~ The Clamp
Made of sturdy plastic, the clamp is designed to fit through two slats in the crib railing and rest on top of the crib rail for added stability. The clamp fits together in two parts much like a nut and bolt to hold the mobile securely to the crib; the larger, round 'nut' piece is screwed onto a threaded 'bolt' from the outside of the crib. (We placed our mobile on the backside of the crib so that the clamp mechanism isn't visible at all from the rest of baby's bedroom.)
~ The Arm
The long, plastic arm piece is a tube that fits into the clamp piece and stretches upward approximately 18" over the side crib railing to support the main part of the mobile. Once attached, I was very well pleased with how sturdy the entire structure was - while the arm will move somewhat, the movement is very minimal and certainly doesn't provide enough slack to risk dropping the mobile into the crib.
~ The Cloth Arm Cover
The cloth arm cover, as its name implies, is a tube of fabric that slides over the plastic arm for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. The fabric is light blue with a white floral print, made to match perfectly the design in the John Lennon Real Love bedding. The fabric slides easily over the arm and is long enough to bunch slightly along the arm of the mobile - a very nice touch, in my opinion.
~ The Music Box
The music box provided with this mobile is a white plastic circle, approximately 3" across, which hooks onto the top of the arm. The front features a sticker with the same elephant and giraffe featured throughout the John Lennon line of bedding and accessories, and the wind-up dial is located on the back of the music box. This plays a beautiful rendition of John Lennon's song "Imagine". So often, songs are distorted beyond recognition when played by a music box, but not this one - anyone familiar with this song can easily pick up the tune (and even sing along!) after the first few notes.
~ The Canopy and Critters
The cloth canopy attaches to the mobile via a small hook at the bottom of the music box - the only moving piece, which turns in a circle to allow the canopy and attached plush animals to rotate. The canopy itself is wonderfully designed to reflect every pattern in the Real Love bedding set - the blue and white floral print of the arm cover alternates around the top with a white background covered in brightly drawn animals, just like those on the matching crib sheet. A yellow sunshine-print scalloped border hanging from the canopy's sides matches the border work on the coordinating comforter. Five stuffed toys hang from the underside of the canopy by pastel ribbons; at one corner there is a pale blue elephant with adorable yellow feet and tusks, at another corner, a purple rhinoceros with a fun pink horn. His neighbor is a sweet pink elephant, and at the last corner is a yellow giraffe with pink patched-on spots. In the center of the mobile hangs a stuffed yellow sun with yellow looped ribbon rays, embroidered with the John Lennon logo and surrounded by hanging pastel ribbons that flutter as the mobile turns.
The Finished Product
It definitely appears that Baby Boom put a lot of effort into creating the perfect mobile to accentuate the John Lennon bedroom set - from the perfectly coordinating patterns to the quality sound and adorable plush animals that seem to almost dance to the melody, I can't imagine a more perfect mobile to grace our nursery.
A Special Note About Mobiles
To minimize risk of strangulation, ANY mobile that hangs above a crib should be removed when baby is old enough to sit unattended!
