| pinkskittle's Full Review: Baby Einstein Colors and Shapes Musical Mobile |
My husband was so bent on getting our new baby a mobile. He picked up Baby Einstein Colors & Shapes Musical Mobile from Walmart a couple weeks after our son was born. I'm always slightly concerned with spending a bunch of money on something the baby may decide he doesn't like it once we can't return it anymore.
Features
-Good for babies from 0-5 months (or until baby starts pushing up on hands and knees).
-A remote so you can turn the mobile on if your baby is ready to play, but you just want a bit more sleep.
-Turns while playing classical melodies from Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy and Tchaikovsky.
-Colorful Baby Einstein characters as well as real-life pictures from the sea, sky, and farm hang off the mobile from ribbons.
-Comes with extra pictures to insert in the picture-holders to keep things fresh.
-You can insert your own pictures into the holders.
-Baby-safe mirror on the side
-Buttons on the side that activate one song at a time (instead of continuous play).
-Auto-off after 15 minutes.
-Music and colors help baby's brain develop.
Putting it together
Assembly seemed easy enough for my husband. He spent about 15 minutes on it (he also mentions he was watching a movie while putting it together, which may have extended the assembly time). The only problem he had was that it required a jewellery screwdriver, which not everyone owns. This type of screwdriver is thinner than the standard ones. Most of the assembly was stringing the ribbons to all the pieces that hang off the mobile.
Entertainment Factor
Our little Owen wasn't too keen on the mobile at first. He would just lie there and cry. Just before he hit 2 months, he loved it. He would watch the pictures going around, kick his legs, and coo. It actually helped me get some stuff done around the house without feeling like I was neglecting him!
Reliability
We've had the Baby Einstein Colors & Shapes Musical Mobile for 3 months now and so far no issues with it breaking down.
What I don't like about it
- No option to have the mobile turn without music.
- No volume control.
- When my baby moves around in his crib while sleeping, the pieces of the mobile clank and clatter, so I have to take the mobile off the bed each night so it doesn't wake him up.
