Magick1's Full Review: Baby Einstein Who Lives In The Pond Bath Book
We received this Baby Einstein book when my daughter turned 2 years old. She loves it for its soft pages and the bright colorful pictures! I am not sure if I have a collectors item with this book or not. I was searching for the book by the title on the binding side and it differs from the title on the front cover (and here at Epinions). We have had this book for a while and my daughter truly enjoys reading it.
The Story
This is the story of a little tadpole that is looking around his home. He notices that the pond is cool and quiet and that wherever he goes, he sees a tremendous amount of life around him. He comes across some colorful minnows that wriggle through the water while he wiggles through the water himself!
As he swims around the pond, he comes across a number of different animals including a heron that is standing in the pond with spindly, skinny legs! As your child turns the pages, they are greeted by tremendously bright and colorful pages with interesting pictures of the animals popping out and catching your eyes!
The book itself is smaller, being only about 5 ½ inches high by 6 inches wide by about ¾ of an inch thick. The book is made out of PVC and the inside of the pages are made out of polyurethane foam. The pages are bendable and durable and very easy to clean. And, little hands are able to hold onto this book without a problem due to its size and the way the book is made!
This book is made for bath time, allowing them to take this into the bath with them. The book will float around, allow them to read about animals in the pond (or the bathtub) and allow them the pleasure of splashing or swimming around like tadpole does in the book! The one thing I would suggest if you do take this into the water, open the pages up when you take the book out, otherwise they could get moldy from being wet. The pages seal together almost when they are wet and they dont dry out very well unless the book is left parted with the pages not touching one another.
There are 10 pages in tadpoles adventure around the pond! The illustrations are done by Nadeem Zaidi and the book is written by Julie Aigner-Clark. As mentioned, the book is colorful. You have wonderful, vivid blue waters, bright green tadpole, silvery minnows and yellow sand along the waters edge. Every page greets you with new animals in the pond and the striking colors of the animals with the bright blue watery background! It really draws your eyes in to the luscious color and I truly enjoy reading this book!
The book claims to be for ages newborn and up. Reading, obviously, the child needs to be older, but newborns will love the bright colors and the soft pages, I am sure!
This book has been in our family quite a while and it has held up very nicely without rips or tears. And, after many, many uses in the tub, it still looks just like new!
Overall Impressions
This book is fun and playful. I like the material that is made out of for bath time or not. Its tremendously easy to clean this book if something spills on it or if sticky fingers pick up the book to read it! The little story introduces little ones to quite a few different life forms that linger in or around the pond and sparks a lot of conversations in our house about other animals that we can find in the water.
My daughter has told me she enjoys the book because of the tadpole and his adventure around the pond and the wonderful colors you can see in the book. She said that reading it, even in the bath tub with a bubble bath, she can easily find the book because it has wonderfully bright pages! She also enjoys how soft the pages feel, as she says it reminds her of her stuffed animals and how cuddly they are to hold!
I enjoy the book for the little story. It doesnt have a rhyming pattern to it and it is a touch awkward to read out loud. But, the story does leave some open ended questions that children can answer as you go along in the story and it makes reading it a pleasure. I like being able to throw out questions while reading to get my childs insight. The soft pages make it wonderful to hold onto when reading as the pages do not cut into my fingers.
If you are looking for a fun little bath time activity, this might be a book to look for to throw into the tub sometime. The first time we threw this into the bath, my daughter worried the book was ruined because most books are paper and would be devastated by a bath. Not this book, its made especially for this purpose!
~Thanks for spending time with me today!~
( If you cannot find the book by the title of Who Lives in the Pond?, try Whos Wet at the Pond? My books binding says the second title while the cover says the first title. The ISBN is 0-7868-1910-3.)
