I never attempted to put the little baby food jars in my cabinet because I knew it would be a disaster. It was already traumatic getting the little jars from the grocery store to the kitchen. I immediately got this carousel to store the baby jars. I'm glad this didn't cost much. My baby preferred the real food so baby jars were a short fad using primarily to store jars for travel and daycare.
Where to put
I had to store it on the kitchen counter because it would not spin in my cabinet and I wouldn't be able to reach or read the jars anyway because the cabinets were overhead. If I put them under the cabinet, the baby would have used them as bowling pins! It's as difficult to pick out 2 jars of baby food as it to plan a whole dinner! Hmmm, she just had that....that doesn't go well together, etc. so I wanted it somewhere I could get a good look at them without the struggle so I put it on the counter right below that baby's bottle cabinet. It was just temporary anyway.
Ease of Use
My husband, well he still claims he doesn't know where we keep the plates so having all the baby items together was necessary. I don't think he would dig through a cabinet for baby food (I say this because he doesn't "see" the ketchup in the fridge when it's behind a jug of milk if you know what I mean). My husband was really good at going to the carousel for the food. It was easy for him and he seemed to like it...when it was stocked. I guess that's what kept me motivated to stock it every day. That's a hassle because it never ends.
Fitting the Jars
I don't know how other people shop, but when the baby food is on sale, I buy. So I come home with about 2 flats of baby food. Gerber Vs. Heines. My baby preferred Heines on some of the flavors so I had 2 different shape jars to deal with. It wasn't too long before she was in the large size jars which threw another challenge into the art of organizing. It fits 20 some jars. Sounds like a lot when you're sitting at your computer but not enough when you get home from the store.
3 Tier
I originally thought the carousel would be perfect because it had 3 tiers -- vegetables, fruit, and main dish. Well that didn't work out because they were not eaten evenly. There's also breakfast and desert not to mention the size issue mentioned above.
Extra Jars
What do you do with all the extras that don't fit on the carousel? I threw all the extras in a big basket that I previously used for apples and oranges. In the end, I used my basket the most and the items on the carousel was just back-up.
Buy Again?
This is a cool idea and it's used more than most "baby" items and can be handy. It does the job it claims to do. It's inexpensive. But it is an eye sore so if it's not going to fit in your cabinet or pantry you'll have to think harder about it . At this price I'd buy it again.
