There is a right and wrong way to use most products. It seems you didn't read the instructions or make it to the guide for parents at the end of the video. The video was never meant to be an electronic babysitter. All of the images at the end show parents watching the video WITH the baby and interacting together.
The music is not intended for adult tastes. A full orchestral version of Mozart's works would probably be too much auditory stimulation at one time for most babies. They would likely tune it out (just like they are able to tune out noise in crowded public places.)
I doubt it will make your child a genius, but it does offer some interesting stimulation for the brain. Yes, some of the plastic toys are kind of tacky, Think of them as bright, interesting images to look at, not material for Martha Stewart magazine.
Try taking yourself a bit less seriously!
