When I was younger, the Baby Ruth candy bar was one of my favorites. Now, I have re-found these candy bars and I find them to be very satisfying!

The Candy Bar

The Baby Ruth Candy Bar is a wonderful confection with chocolate, peanuts and caramel and a chewy nougat. These bars are made by Nestle. The 2.10 ounce bar is the standard size candy bar. I cannot recall seeing these in the “king” size in the stores like you can find in most other candy bars nowadays. Which, is probably a good thing!

The ingredients are as follows:

Sugar (you have to love something that starts out with sugar as the very FIRST ingredient), roasted peanuts, corn syrup, hydrogenated palm kernel and coconut oil, nonfat milk, high fructose corn syrup, cocoa, and less than 1% of glycerin whey, dextrose, salt, artificial and natural flavors, soy lecithin, soybean oil, carrageenan, TBHQ and citric acid (to preserve freshness), lactic acid esters.

Now, just to clarify, you don’t have to love the first ingredient! But, it seems like our taste buds are drawn to sugary items like chocolate, high fructose corn syrups, etc. This seems to have everything in there you are supposed to avoid like those mentioned above and especially: hydrogenated (anything).

This flows nicely into the next section of helpful information, the nutritional value. This is based upon 1 bar (2.10 oz. size) and on a 2,000 calorie diet. The information is as follows:

You do get a little benefit from the candy bar, the protein and a little bit of fiber. This is better than other items where it is literally all sugar! (See, this is my rationalization that it’s the New Year, and I am already eating candy instead of trying to abstain from chocolate or candy altogether!) LOL

The flavor is delicious. It, to me, is not overly sweet and it is not “un” sweet. Some things can have an extremely sweet flavor that over powers you. This candy bar is not one that meets that level for me.

There always seems to be a good amount of peanuts. They are the half or whole peanuts, not little microscopic pieces of peanut. The roasted flavor shines through the nougat, the caramel and the chocolate. The roasting is perfect, not overly done and not leaving the nuts somewhat raw.

I have been fortunate enough to never have a spoiled peanut. I cannot say that for the peanuts that I purchase for eating, though.

The nougat and caramel are just enough to give you some excellent flavor, the bar is usually about the size of a quarter and the caramel and nougat only seem to make up roughly a dime size portion of this candy bar. The rest is nuts with a think layer of chocolate!

The chocolate is a milk chocolate and it reminds me a little of a melted Nestle chocolate chip! It’s light in flavor, medium brown in color and tastes terrific!

Overall Impressions

I really enjoy the freshness, the size, the flavor and the amount of peanuts inside each bar. I have not found any of these candy bars to be lacking in flavor or nuts. I am glad I decided to try one, after many years. Calorie wise, they are not the most terrible candy bars on the market. But, if you are watching the caloric intake, ignore this powerful suggestion to try one!

When you want chocolate, nuts and caramel, this should be your candy bar of choice!
