What do 1 year olds want? Sounds, Lights, music. This bus has all that, plus it's educational. I have checked out the competition. And, I have given this toy to two 1 year olds.
What makes this the hands down winner? First, the sound is clear. Moms who have checked out toys that say words can relate. Sometimes the words are so slurred that it teaches improper speech. What do we buy these toys for? So, they will learn what the names of things are. We can't have kids going to school saying Shurcle instead of circle, or bay instead of B. And, many of the speech toys sound that bad. It's no wonder so many kids are in speech therapy. I have a hard enough time getting my son to say words correctly. I don't need a toy reinforcing bad grammar.
Now, there are some toys that are more expensive. But, they focus solely on teaching one thing. Some do numbers and basic math which is way too hard for a 1 year old. Still others focus on letters and words and spelling. This is more on a 1 year olds level. And, it has so many options.
The ON button can be put in 2 different positions. When slid to the left, the horn beeps and the ABC buttons say A,B,C. The buttons that make the lamb, 2 cats, and 3 mice pop up play nursery rhymes. Mary Had a Little Lamb, Hey Diddle Diddle, and Hickory Dickery Dock respectively.
When slid to the right, the horn beeps and the ABC buttons say,"Blue Triangle." This is the shape and color of the button that A sits on. Then, Red Square and Green Circle for the B and C buttons. The pop up buttons say, "One Lamb." And, the one lamb pops up. Then, the two cats pop up and the three mice. And, they make their animal sounds. I must add this is the only complaint I have about the toy. The animal sounds aren't very good.
There is, also, a slide button on the back. When it is slid, it plays one of three songs. You guessed it, they are: Mary Had a Little Lamb, Hey Diddle Diddle, and Hickory Dickery Dock. When the toy is turned to the off position, it says, "Bye-Bye."
I, also, mentioned lights. The bus has a smiley face. It's nose lights up. And, the ABC buttons light up. It's made of durable plastic. But, since I gave both of the ones I bought to other kids, I can't vouch for the longevity of this toy. Of course, the bus roles. Although, it might be a little more entertaining, if it had a pull string. But, ya can't have everything.
For $13 this is a great investment. It's versatility is worth every cent. It's not over a little ones head. And, no toy beats a noisemaker that lights up.
