I had a huge Graco high chair before, but wanted something that would fold up and store in the closet! This is as compact as a high chair gets!! I've found it along with the bonus of the wheels and some other great features!! This high chair was worth it! I'm glad I gave away the bulky one and got this newer model! I like the adjustable heights, tray storage (on back) and cool look! There are some cons, but the pros are worth it.
So here's how it happened....In 1998 we bought a brand new Graco high chair. I thought it was great. Snack tray, removable tray, the "works" for a reasonable price. But...we soon realized that it was huge! There was only one way to fold the thing and that was to have it go up! There was no way it was fitting in any closets when not in use. So, along comes baby #3 in 2003 and we decided to look for something more compact. Compact for a high chair that is!
I first looked at a Fisher Price. It had the wheels, and three removable dishwasher trays. I thought, that sounded nice, but then realized that I didn't need more trays sitting around my house than we can use at once.
I then hit another store and saw this Baby Trend. I liked the way it folded up. It is not super compact, but better than any I've seen. We can even store it in the coat closet! I told my husband to put it together - he never got around to it, so I finally decided to. Well, imagine my surprise when it was already together in the box!!!!
My baby is small weight wise, but average length. I've found that the straps, even at the smallest, are a little big. The tray seems to come up to chest level, which is high. I've even put an older child in and it still seems high. I do like the adjustable heights for the chair. I can now sit down to feed good old rice cereal to my baby!! The chair reclines for the first few months of feeding.
My kids love to wheel their sister around, although sometimes the wheels do stick. I really like the wheel feature. We have hardwood floors. I'm not sure how easily it would wheel on carpet.
I do like the removable dishwasher tray. I haven't had the chance to put it in the dishwasher yet, but we usually just rinse and reuse. The extra bonus is that if the top tray is dirty, you can use the tray underneath. The "one handed tray release" takes some getting used to. Any mother (or father) will soon learn how to hold baby in one hand, put foot on bottom to stabilize chair and pull like anything to get the tray off. It's not to hard, but takes some practice!! I love the way the tray stores on the back of the chair! This is easy to use and the tray stays put!!!
The chair pad is fabric, but is reversible. That is a con, because who wants to keep washing the chair pad? But so far we've managed to keep the dirt minimal. In a jam I'll just reverse it so it looks clean.
I love the look of this high chair, and it's ease of use. I especially like the way it folds. We can even put it in the mini-van to take along with us. I am glad we ditched the huge Graco and bought this Baby Trend. I think all high chairs with these qualities are expensive, but the price we payed was what you would expect for this type of chair. I would buy this chair again.
