| rmgood's Full Review: Baby Trend Diaper Champ Diaper Pail |
Over the course of being a mom, I have added many new titles to my career: Money Management Specialist, Scheduling Assistant, Experimental Dietician, Laundry Service Extraordinaire and now for my newest title -Waste Management Engineer. From the day my daughter was born until probably the day she is potty-trained, I am on an endless mission to discover the 8th wonder of the world - Is there indeed an "odorless" diaper pail?
As it stands at this moment, I would have to say that these much sought after solutions exist only in the fairy-tale land of television commercials. However, my latest attempt at solving this mystery lead me to Baby Trend's Diaper Champ and, at the very least, I am one step closer than I have been in the past.
Make no mistake, the Diaper Champ is not "odorless" as it claims to be. However, keeping in mind that no other diaper pail holds up to such a high standard, the Diaper Champ does do a fairly decent job of containing odors. At $30, the Diaper Champ is on the high-side of the average range of diaper pails. (Does that even make sense?) And the quality matches its price.
Ease Of Use:
The simple, one-handed design puts the "Diaper Genie" to shame. No special bags are required which can save you hundreds of dollars over your course of diaper duty. You simply bundle your dirty diaper, drop it in the hole and move the handle. TADA! The diaper disappears and the pail is ready and waiting for your next feeding. This are no confusing sausage-type wrappings, no annoying extra steps and no need for two hands (leaving one hand free to trap your little squirmer on the changing table)! The only thing you need to be aware of is sticking tape on the diapers -just make sure those little tabs aren't exposed or the diaper may get stuck against the lid of the pail.
Durability:
The Diaper Champ is made of a strong, thick plastic which is far more weighted than cheaper diaper pails. I originally started out with Safety First's Odorless Diaper Pail but the thin plastic did not hold up well. Also, as my daughter grew older, she learned to open the pail and could easily tip it over -not the most pleasant combination! She has not been able to do either of these things with the Diaper Champ. There are no small springs to break off and no flimsy parts to fall apart as with the Safety First pail.
Conclusion:
My quest continues, but for now I am content on using the Diaper Champ. The size is comparable to most other brands, slightly larger than the Diaper Genie and Safety First. The convenience of using standard bags and allowing for one-handed operation of two definite advantages to this system. Don't expect miracles in the odor department, but it does tame them down to a respectable level and really what more can you expect.
