Baby's First Pooh Friend: Winnie The Pooh
My mother and I are both big fans of Pooh. So, when it came time for toys for Alexander he does have a few Winnie the Pooh related products. Ok, he has a lot of Pooh stuff, I 'fess up. However, the two that come to mind as favorites are a Giant Pooh Plush and Baby's First Pooh.
Baby's First Pooh Friend is by Fisher Price and is a simple Pooh Plush with no bells and whistles. Unlike many baby toys, Pooh is not a noisy toy, but instead he is a simply there to love. If you shake pooh he does have a bit of a rattle inside but nothing too jarring.
Pooh is made of a soft plush and is about 10 inches in length (approximation). He is big enough for your baby to hold but not too big that he is awkward. I'd say, he is perfect to hug and to cuddle. I want one of these for myself! Unlike many other toys that hurt to step on, sit on, crawl over, or get bonked in the head with - Pooh does not. He is very soft and smushable yet firm, if that makes sense? . I think that he's a perfect buddy for a little one to play with or have as a take-along companion.
That being said, is Baby's First Pooh my son's favorite? Not at this time. His favorite Pooh is actually the larger Giant Pooh version, with Baby's First Pooh running a close second. His favorite "lovey" that goes most places with him is a plush from TY-Baby (actually we have 3 that we rotate, 2 bunnies and a bear). Baby's First Pooh simply has not had the opportunity to become his favorite, because Pooh lives at my parents house. However, several times a week when we are at Grandma and Grandpa's the Poohs come out to play and Alexander gets a smile on his face. He does love Pooh very much. Just this afternoon my mother and I were talking about how out of all the toys its Pooh that really makes him squeal. Pooh helped
him learn how to roll over, and to crawl and Pooh tips over when sitting up sometimes, just like him!
As a Mom, I am impressed with Baby's First Pooh very much. When considering getting a plush toy for a child, especially a baby, you do need to consider quite a few things. The first is the safety of the toy. Are there any small parts or pieces that can be considered a choking hazard? Baby's First Pooh is safe for infants and reccommended for those 0-2 years. There are no small pieces that can break off, loose eyes strings that could cause choking or strangulation. Pooh's body is tightly stitched and will not come apart. Pooh's bright red shirt is stitched on and he does not have a honeypot. His face is embroidered and its not going anywhere! Baby's First Pooh has the same distinct black eyes, big nose and sweet friendly smile that we all know and love very much. Simply put, Pooh is cute.
The next thing you'll want to keep in mind when selecting a stuffed animal toy is what material the plush toy is and how you plan on keeping it clean. Fisher Price was smart with Baby's First Pooh and made him completely machine washable, and dryable. Just toss Baby's First Pooh in with the laundry and into the dryer and he's good to go. You will want to be careful because Pooh's shirt is Red, so be sure he goes in with a colored load. If you want to be careful you can stick him in a pillow case that is knotted and run him through on delicate.
Chances are, with the amount of love Pooh gets you'll be running him through the washer & dryer more than once! A loved Pooh will end up getting spit-up, drool, and more on more than one occasion. Baby's First Pooh holds up well and will come out of the washer & dryer looking just fine!
Because of the risk of SIDS and suffocation you should never put a plush toy in a crib with an infant. For that reason Pooh should not be a sleeping buddy until your child gets a bit older.
Baby's First Pooh costs $9.99 and is available at most retail outlets like Wal-Mart or Toys R Us. If you are looking for a lovable friend for your baby, or for a gift - definitely consider Pooh. You can't go wrong! Pooh's a timeless classic that both parents and child will enjoy.
