How I came to use rescue remedy
Recommend this product?
I actually found out about rescue remedy when looking for a solution for my high strung dog's barking at thunderstorms and fireworks. It gets rave reviews in the pet community so I gave it a try. I started with the pet variety which is made without alcohol. It worked like a charm so I bought some of the drops for myself. I liked them, but like to put them right on my tongue and you have to drop four drops which is tough to count out unless you are in front of a mirror. I was searching online to buy some when I found this spray and thought it would be so much easier than the drops. Besides that if you spill the bottle of drops that's it! With the spray it is easier to dose and you have no chance of spilling.
What is Rescue Remedy
First let me tell you that the ingredients are identical in the drops and the spray. I saw some reviews that said they were different but that is simply not the case. I verified this with the company who makes the stuff. It contains the five flower essenses plus alcohol. the manufacturer does not state the alcohol content but I did read somewhere that it is 27%. You can definitely taste it. If the alcohol part bothers you get the one for pets or I have also seen one for children. I am guessing it is the same formula as the pet one. The pet one uses glycerin and water.
* Star of Bethlehem. For shock and emotional numbness resulting from trauma or bereavement.
* Rock rose. For terror, panic attacks, and hysteria; also recommended for recurrent nightmares.
* Impatiens. For those who tend to think and act impulsively, or become tense and irritable when upset.
* Cherry plum. For fear of losing physical or emotional control.
* Clematis. To prevent "spaciness" or passing out in crisis situations.
What are Bach Flowers anyway?
Developed by Dr Edward Bach Rescue remedy is a combination of 5 of his flower remedies. The formula has been the same for over 70yrs. You can read more about it at http://www.rescueremedy.com
Side Effects and Warnings
I have not read of any side effects and unlike other things to calm people down this does not make you feel sleepy or in any way dopey. I have talked to a lot of people who have used this and it just seems to balance and normalize your stress level rather than drug you. If you are feeling drugged in anyway I would contact a doctor.
As with any drug and since this contains alcohol as an ingredient it is suggested that you contact a doctor before using if you are pregnant or nursing or have any other medical condition. It is always a good idea to check with a doctor before taking anything.
What does it taste like and does it work?
To me it tastes like alcohol and feels a little tingley in the mouth. This goes away in a few minutes. Resist washing it down with a glass of water because it generally absorbs better from your mucous membranes than in your stomach.
I feel it works well. I would almost say it was in my head except for the fact that it works on my dog and he certainly has no idea that I am giving him something to calm him down. Some people say it is the alcohol but the dog drops have no alcholol and I have tried them too with the same results. It just seems to help you deal with stress better. I think it works better if you take it before a stressful situation if you can predict it. I know it works better for the dog if I give it before a thunderstorm rather than waiting until the thunder is crashing.
Sizes Cost and Value
The spray comes in two sizes 20ml or 7ml I paid $11 including shipping for the 20ml size at amazon.com The smaller size did not seem like it was much cheaper but might be convenient for carrying in your purse. I feel this price is well worth it as the two spray dosing lasts a long time. This is generally not something I am using daily so it can be a year or more before I need to order more.
