Stephen King's book Bag of Bones is a true work of fictional horror . It was copyrighted in 1998 yet still seems as though it could have happened just yesterday . Unfortunately some books seem old , but this is not one of them .
There are what you may call several main characters in the book . Michael Noonan is the character the book winds around the most . He is a professional writer that is having trouble in his career due to a death in his family . Namely his wife . Don't get upset thinking I'm giving the story line away . This happens at the beginning of the book .
The story is told in first person , so that means there are many " I 's" in the book . That tends to get on my nerves a bit , but considering the circumstances , Mr. King held his own in delivering a perfectly chilling tale .
As many of Stephen King's books are bound to do , Bag of Bones tends to drag a bit . The story is much like an Andes Mint . You suck on the somewhat good chocolate to get to that thin little sliver of minty goodness . There are many pages and even chapters in the book where you will just have to suck it up . Do not skip pages though , cheaters aren't allowed . If you skip through the boring parts you will probably not get the good parts . So , I guess all the "filler" is needed after all .
The book is considered a Haunted Love Story as quoted from the hardcover version . I believe possessed may be a more adequate description .There are many things and phenomena that happen that I just do not see someone hanging around to experience . Then again , when I hear a noise at the back door I go check it out . I wonder if there aren't angels yelling at me to not go much as the audience does in a horror flick . ( Ha , Ha . )
The story is full and complete . You aren't left with a sense in the end of I wonder what happened to that person . I was satisfied with the ending . The ending is the most suspense ridden area in the whole book . I'm a happy ending freak and like I said the ending was satisfying . Not fairy tale and then they lived happily ever after , but not one of those that make you want to write the ending yourself .( Or read the book over wondering if maybe you missed the ending somewhere in the middle , I call those Prozac books ). All the strings were tied up in a neat little bow , and there even is a way to make a sequel . If you are reading this Stephen , let me write it ! I already know know how it goes ! Urmmmm , back to the review ( sorry people ) .
When you read this book be prepared to enjoy it . There are so many unexpected twists . Okay , they aren't totally unexpected , but Mr. King does a great way of making you feel like , " Oh , I know he just didn't . " I give the book a five stars out of four .
This is also my complete opinion , but being a true writer myself , I find that writers often incorporate a bit of themselves into the characters . It is interesting to think while reading this book that maybe Stephen King has put a hair of his personal life into it as well . Like I said , the main character is a professional writer . Mr. King does a lot of name dropping in the book of other famous true to life writers . Just a possibility to keep in mind .
Well , since we writers are only getting income share on our Epinions now , I didn't take the time to search out places where you can buy the book . Since you are online and you did find this opinion , I'm sure you can find the book in a cajillion online stores dying for your credit card number . I got to read mine ( hardback version ) free of charge . If you want to know how - go to your public library . Yes , libraries rule for people who are unfortunately unable to purchase a book .
