LauroA's Full Review: Ballatore Gran Spumante - 750ml
Ballatore Gran Spumante is my usual choice of Italian sparkling wine when I just want to drink champagne with my friends or have a glass with my dinner. It is the least expensive version of asti spumante I have found on the shelf, and taste wise I prefer it to the next more expensive brands.
Ballatore Gran Spumante is a molto dolce, colore d'oro vino spumante, Italia's version of the French sparkling wines, which are sec et plus de sec. Italia cannot use the word champagne on any of their sweet, golden sparkling wines because France would declare war if they did. And, then, champagne is literally a grape originally grown in the old province of Champagne, France.
Italiano spumante is a dessert by itself, but in Italia the custom is not to eat sweets for dessert but to place a bowl of fruit upon the table at the finish of the meal, which is the perfect accompaniment to a glass of vino spumante.
