mrs-j's Full Review: Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion
After exposing myself to far too much sun a few weekends ago I wrote a review of Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel. In the comments section of my review, Julie aka 42ENGLISH recommended I give Banana Boat's Aloe After Sun Lotion a try as well. So, a few days later I picked up an 8 ounce squeeze bottle of the lotion at a local CVS.
About Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion
Banana Boat makes many tanning and after-tan products and I've always liked the products of theirs that I have used. The Aloe After Sun Lotion is a creamy ivory-colored lotion that contains both aloe vera and vitamin E. Banana Boat claims that this lotion both moisturizes and soothes skin, two things that I desperately needed.
The back of the bottle claims that this lotion provides the after sun relief needed for skin that's spent time in the sun. The Aloe and Vitamin E are touted to relieve peeling and dryness, and to help keep your skin moist. Banana Boat claims that regular use of this non-greasy lotion will keep your tan lasting longer and will replace moisture lost due to sun exposure. Banana Boat also recommends that this product be used year-round to keep skin soft.
Using Banana Boat After Sun Lotion
The directions instruct you to apply the lotion freely to your body and face. It takes about a half-dollar dollop of the lotion to completely cover my upper body and arms, and just under that amount for my legas. The lotion goes on easily, and is not sticky or greasy. It absorbs into the skin quickly and has a pleasant, light scent that disappears after a few moments.
How Well It Works
I think it's a testament to how well this product works that I did not peel at all after getting so brutally sunburned. Not even a rough patch. Sometimes you can't help but peel but with religious use of Banana Boat Aloe Vera gel (to ease the pain) and then the lotion, to moisturize my sun-dried skin, I didn't have so much as a single flake of peeling. I was seriously impressed with how well the product worked.
After a week of diligent use, once the window in which I might peel had passed, I stopped using Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion and went back to my regular all over body moisturizer. My skin was soft and smooth after that week. I like my regular moisturizer a great deal, so my plan is to only use Banana Boat products when I need them after sun exposure.
Where to Buy and Cost
Seasonally you can find this product in many grocery stores and drugstores. Out of season you can find it online at places like drugstore.com. This lotion is available in 8 and 16 ounce bottles, which cost roughly $3 and $6 respectively.
Summary
I greatly appreciated Julie's recommendation, as it turned me onto a product I might not have otherwise given a chance. Banana Boat Aloe After Sun lotion worked exactly as advertised and not only moisturized my skin, but also kept me from the ravages of a peeling face. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for an after-sun skin care regimen.
