hlbirk's Full Review: Banana Boat Aloe After Sun Lotion
The warm days of summer have finally arrived! The kids have been cooped up for far too long so we headed outside. Dressed in shorts and short-sleeved shirts we had a day filled with basketball, sidewalk chalk and friendly conversation with the neighbors. Little did I know that my skin was becoming increasingly red.
By the time we came in for the day I was pleasantly warm to the touch. Ahem, yes, I know I should have come in sooner but it was so nice out and the kids were having such a good time I couldn't resist. Oh and in case you're wondering, the kids didn't have any redness to them at all. Myself and 2 other moms were the ones that "took the heat".
I went to the linen closet to search for something soothing that would relieve my lobster red, tight, goose bumped skin and found our bottle of Banana Boat After Sun lotion. Ahhhh, relief. The bottle that we have does not have the pump spout like the picture above shows and I'm assuming that's a new feature this season. My bottle is 21.5 oz, with a huge label that says it's 33% more FREE. If I remember correctly we paid around $4.50-5 for it. At the state of discomfort I was in that day I would have gladly paid my oldest son for it!
Directions on the back of the bottle say apply freely on body and face. Let me tell ya, I slathered this stuff all over like white on rice! At first it had an overly cool effect but once I started gently rubbing it in the coolness evened out. The bottle also says it's safe to use year round by applying regularly. That's an added bonus in my book because my skin gets really, really dry in the winter and I've found that it actually does keep my skin soft and moisturized.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Mineral Oil, Stearic Acid, Coconut Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Aloe Vera Gel, Cocoa Butter, PEG-75 Lanolin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sorbitol, Triethanolamine, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Red No. 40 and Fragrance.
Fragrance? Oh yeah, there's a very distinct smell to this lobster lotion! Is it bad? Personally, no. My kids think it smells horrible but I like the tropical smell that has. This is especially interesting when I'm using during those cold winter months and nobody's used to the tropical coconut smell!
Banana Boat After Sun lotion is great for adults and kids alike. I will admit that I did peel slightly, but I never blistered or itched like some sunburns can leave you.
