| Talisman's Full Review: Banana Boat Block For Baby |
I live in Arizona where sunblock is a diaper bag necessity. My friend came over and left this at my house and when I told her that she had left it she told me to keep it. So I inherited a tube of Baby Block from her. Baby Block is a water proof, hypo allergenic, SPF 50 sunblock designed for kids.
Ingredients
One of the ingredients in this sunblock is Titanium Dioxide. The purpose of this ingredient is to provide UVA and UVB protection. According to the manufacturer it provides protection against the full spectrum of the UV rays which are even more damaging to a young childs' skin.
This sunblock is PABA free. Most sunblocks these days are, but every once in a while you find one that has PABA in it. I am highly allergic to PABA so PABA free sun block is very important in my family.
The sunblock also has Aloe Vera and Vitamin E in it. Those two ingredients offer moisturising benefits to keep the skin of the child soft and keep it from drying out due to the water.
The Lotion
The lotion, itself, has a texture must like Desitin. It is a very thick white cream that goes on very evenly. The lotion is 100% fragrance free which makes it even more hypo-allergenic. The fragrance free is also nice because it doesn't attract bugs or children who like to eat things that smell good.
My 2.5 year old
My 2.5 year old has used this sunblock since he was 12 months old. He is what I call a pool rat, he loves to hang out in the pool. We put this lotion on him about 15 minutes before he goes outside to swim and we reapply it every hour or so. This sunblock isn't just for the summer, since I live in "The Valley Of The Sun" we use it year round. We use it when we go to the park or to the zoo. My 2.5 year old has never had a sunburn, and he spends most of his waking hours out in the sun.
My 12 month old
My 12 month old has used this sunblock since he was about 9 months old. You are not supposed to put sunblock of any kind on a child under 6 months of age. I'm a lil paranoid so I just try to keep the kids out of the direct sunlight until 9 months at which time I am more at ease with putting sunblock on them. My 12 month old is my "allergic" child. He seems to have very sensitive skin. I have put this sunblock on him on a few occasion, such as when we went to the zoo and he has not had any type of allergic reaction to it.
Me
I use this product too. I have very sensitive skin and I decided to try this product out. I have used it quite a few times and never gotten burned while using it. It did not irritate my skin at all, nor did it make my skin feel greasy.
Overall
Overall this is a great product for those of you in need of sunblock for a child. It is also a great product if you, as an adult, have sensitive skin or are in need of a high SPF sunblock. It is not greasy, nor is it strong smelling. It is a necessity for any diaper bag. We purchased a 4 Fl. Oz tube of the product and it lasted us all summer.
