| bupkiss's Full Review: Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Soft Medium |
I could start this review of Banana Boat Sunless Tanning Creme in Soft Medium Blend with really trite jokes about how pale I am. You know, I'm so white, I glow in the dark, or other tired gems like that? But I won't. Why?
Because I'm pasty, pale, and translucent no more! I've been slathering Soft Medium on me all week in preparation for my trip to Greece, the swarthy capital of the Mediterranean. I didn't want to blind the kind people of Hellas, so I decided to apply self-tanner generously as a public service before hitting the beach.
I am very pleased with Soft Medium's look on my skin: it is indeed soft medium, not orange or dark brown. I admit I was really apprehensive about buying this stuff: it only costs about 6 bucks, and I've heard horrible things about cheap-o self-tanners, but this self-tanner works wonderfully.
Ease of Application
Soft Medium is very easy to apply. The consistency is much like any kind of skin or suntan lotion, and I rubbed it in with my hands. The self-tanner is tinted ("color indicator for an even tan"), so I could tell the areas I had already covered (does anyone remember the days of invisible self-tanners? What a dumb idea!). Due to the "color indicator," even before the tan is in full effect, it's easy to tell what the end product will be. It takes a few hours for the tan to show up in all its glory though.
This stuff also absorbs quickly, and it moisturizes the skin, making subsequent applications even easier. After achieving a base tan, less applications are needed for maintenance. Another plus: Soft Medium isn't overly greasy or irksome.
Overall Appearance
After applying Soft Medium, waiting a few hours, and then applying it again (it is good to layer the applications for an even look, especially since this is a more subtle shade), I truly look like I have a natural tan. My skin is not streaky or an unnatural color. The moisturizing effects of the self-tanner have improved the look of my skin, making the usual self-tanner "problem areas" (rough areas like the elbows and the knees) appear the same shade as the rest of my skin.
What's in This Stuff?
Well, of course PVP/Dimethiconylacrylate is in it, but besides that, Soft Medium contains aloe vera and vitamin E for a nice looking tan.
Would I Buy This Again?
Yes. I would definitely buy this again. I am psyched to have found a way to be bronzed without risking nasty UV rays and third-degree burns (not to mention tan lines). Soft Medium allows me to control how deep I want my tan to be. This product is a great buy.
And Remember . . .
Exfoliate vigorously before applying a self-tanner. This gets rid of dead surface skin cells, giving you a clean slate for an even tan. And always wash your hands thoroughly after applying a self-tanner! Your palms will be tanned as well if you forget.
And I would include URLs to Epinions about applying a self-tanner, but Epinions won't let me. ("The following field contains a word that is too long. Please shorten the word by adding spaces or spaces with a hyphen, or else please choose a shorter word.") Oh, the irony.

I used the creme formula. I have not tried the spray. Check out http://www.bananaboat.com/products_SunlessTanning_SoftMediumCreme.cfm for more information.
