After deciding there was no way I was going to put my current self-tanner, Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer, on my face, I went to the drugstore in search of something to even out the color difference between my face and body. See, I spend a lot of time at the beach where I apply SPF 15 to my face constantly, while my body sometimes is wearing SPF 8. This has caused my face to be about 2 shades lighter than my body. So I looked at all the self-tanners and decided on Banana Boat's VitaSkin Instant Sunless Tanning Lotion in Light/Medium for $9.99.

DIRECTIONS: For best results, use after exfoliating with VitaSkin Pre-Sunless Skin Smoother Exfoliating Scrub. Blend lotion in a thin, even coat. Use sparingly around hairline, elbows, knees and ankles. Wash hands thoroughly and immediately with soap and water after each application. Avoid contact with clothing until dry. Reapply every 2 to 3 hours until desired color is achieved. Then reapply every day or 2 (As needed) to maintain color.

In Use
I pump out some of the lotion. It is brown. I evenly rub it into my face and they are right, you can instantly see color. This color fades a little after the lotion dries. It dried on my face in about 2 minutes. Unlike my Jergens Natural Glow tanner, this tanner actually smells GOOD! I wouldn't choose it as a perfume scent or anything, but I find myself breathing it in deeply and it doesn't smell like chemicals at all! (Though I can't word what it does smell like). It is a light smell just like they said on the bottle. So they really aren't lying...that's a thumbs up in my book. I would even put this on and leave the house, because it is light and it isn't obvious that you're wearing a self-tanner.
Results
3 hours later and I'm in the bathroom checking the results. I find that my face has become a slight shade darker, which is one shade closer but still one shade away from the color of my body. Since the package said you could reapply in 2-3 hours to reach your desired tan, I decide to apply more. This time I accidently pump a bit too much and find I have a thicker layer on my face than before. So I end up wiping the excess off, and everything looks fine. I am greeted with the instant darker color which lessens upon the lotion drying, as it did the first time. This second application leaves my skin looking a little greasy, but I would still be willing to be in public with this on. I would just dab a little powder on my face first.
So after 2 hours go by I'm in the bathroom checking on the tan again. It's perfect! My face looks like it got the same color as my body. The tan is brown, like the color of the lotion, and not fake-orange. I am very impressed. Despite my putting a bit too much on the second application, there are no streaks! (Just make sure to blend the lotion under your chin a little and your neck, because otherwise you might end up with some streaks if the color just ends at the bottom of your face!) I would gladly use this lotion all over the rest of my body because the face is the hardest part and it came out perfect! Though each application only makes you a slight shade darker, it is the perfect lotion to build up a tan with and to put on before you go out. It comes in a Dark shade also for when you've out-tanned the light/medium. Banana Boat has a great product here!
