Move over Barbie theres a new babe on the block and shes poised to plant her diminutive majorette boot in your perfect plastic rump its Huckleberry Toys Bananas Gwen (available exclusively at Target and Target.com (directly or via Amazon.com).
Barbie had best be shaking in her high heels, this tiny 10 terror of a doll is set ready to take prisoners and kick some @ss all up and down the streets of Malibu as the logical tie-in goes, when it comes to describing this doll her sh!t is Bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
There was No Doubt that as soon as these dolls became available for sale, we were going to get a few my two girls 18 and 9 are huge fans of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt (dont worry the tiny tot listens to the cleaned up radio versions of the songs) and they were telling me months earlier that they would be for sale. In January I was able to order a few from Target.com (I have yet to see them in my local store) and my girls were thrilled the excitement about Gwen being able to kick some booty and top the fashion doll dynasty in our home had us eagerly awaiting their arrival.
With 8 dolls to choose from, picking a few was hard. The first doll we ordered as Bananas Gwen. She comes to you dressed in her signature majorette costume white go-go boots, plaid cape, white booty shorts and a majorette hate and jacket. Because she is only ten inches high, changing outfits from our vast containers of Barbie clothes is not an option although a few times we have dressed her up in Barbie gear and had her walking about mocking Barbie.
She also comes with a gym bag, megaphone, baton and a sign that spells out B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Included for your child is a decorated pocket mirror, poster of Gwen dressed in the same outfit and an anime type trading card. My girls love the pocket mirrors and use them all the time. The suggested age is 6 and up. The doll is very nicely packaged and I feel like with all they got the $19.99 sticker price was justified.
So how does Bananas Gwen measure up against Barbie
Let me tell you I love having this doll in the house she is a breath of fresh air in the sea of overly made up, scantily dressed dolls sure her shorts are tiny but somehow they seem more tasteful than anything a My Scene doll wears. As for her look, while she doesnt bear an exact resemblance to Gwen it is close, and more spot on than any time Barbie tries to portray another character.
Her face does have more an anime look and the makeup is appropriate for Gwens look much classier than Barbie will ever be. We have yet to comb her blonde hair it looks good and we dont want to mess it up. Her ability to move and be posed is less than Barbie, but thats cool, we like to have her rock out to the song, so when you grab her legs to make her dance she holds the pose and doesnt bend on her own at the waist.
Overall we love owning this doll she is fun to look at and play with. She is more fun and edgier than Barbie and I feel that Gwen is actually a much better role model than the blonde bimbo shes a real life business woman, career and family oriented gal who always seems to have her head on straight (Britney on the other hand is like a real life version of a My Scene doll hitting the clubs and a total train wreck).
If you are into Ms. Stefani her look and her music - I highly suggest you get one of these dolls they are worth the price tag and would make a great gift to any tween or teen girl.
Many thanks to MT for getting this brand and doll added so quickly it is greatly appreciated.
