| tseeley4's Full Review: Baracuda Mars Pool Cleaner |
Unlike other reviewers who only recently installed the product, I have owned a Barracuda Mars cleaner for about three years now. The unit has not held up to the test of time, with enough degraded parts that it is not worth repairing. I am disappointed and I will not be replacing the unit with another Mars.
Like the other reviewers, I was pleased when the unit was first installed. The Mars has an interesting high-tech design, and was especially good at not getting stuck on the pool steps or in corners. Compared to my old Polaris unit, the Mars leaf collection compartment snaps into place was especially easy to remove and clean.
Over time, however, the performance of the unit slowly degraded. The unit slowed down - the drive jets that propel the unit may have partially clogged but have resisted my efforts to restore flow, there clearly was a back-pressure problem. Also, the materials used in manufacturing appear not to have been extensively tested by prolonged submersion in chlorinated water, as many of the plastics eroded. Due to Mars's tumbling ball-shaped design, a large portion of the surface of the unit comes in contact with the cement side walls and is subject to abrasive damage as well.
I cannot recommend this unit. While everyone who visited our pool commented on how "cool" it looked, the unit has not held up well at all.
