The Bottom Line: Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz is a very cute Barbie and her light up feet are quite unique.

We recently celebrated my youngest daughter Hannah's fifth birthday. At her party she received several new Barbie's. One of the new Barbie's she received was Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz

Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz is an adorable Barbie with dark reddish/brown hair and lovely light brown eyes. Dorothy's lips are painted a shade of coral red, and she has on a light brown eye shadow. Dorothy's hair is separated into two braids that have light blue ribbons tied in bows at the bottom. Dorothy has a blue hairbrush to use if you decide to take her braids out and re-do her hair.

Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz is dressed in a blue and white checked dress that has white puffy sleeves, a white collar, and two white buttons at the waist. On the sleeves and the collar there is a small blue ribbon in a zigzag pattern. The dress is a silky material that looks like it is two pieces but it is not, there are shoulder straps that match the blue checked pattern of the dress. The dress is held closed with small pieces of velcro. The skirt of the dress is full and stands away from Dorothy's legs, the hem reaches the middle of Dorothy's calves. Dorothy is the standard eleven inches tall that most all Barbie's are.

Dorothy is wearing ruby red glittery shoes that unfortunately will not stay on her feet. The shoes are see through to allow the light to shine through them. Dorothy is also wearing a pair of pale blue socks that are made of a sheer material that also has a little shimmery look to it alas, like the shoes these socks will not stay on. If the shoes aren't on, and since the shoes won't stay on, neither will the socks. In order to keep from loosing the socks and shoes I have simply taken them away from Hannah and put them up until she is older and able to keep up with them better.

Dorothy also comes with a small brown basket on her arm. The basket has a weave look to it and has a small blue and white checked napkin tucked in it.

Dorothy also arrives with her trusty little dog Toto tucked under her arm. Little Toto is made of a solid rubber and is a dark brown color. Toto is made to look like he has wavy hair, he also has a little red tongue showing. Toto is made so that he can stand on his own.

Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz say's two phrases, "Toto I have a feeling we're in Kansas anymore!" and "There's no place like home!" to make these sounds, you press the small button that is on Dorothy's back. You can't choose which phrase you want to hear, one phrase is said and then the other, the two phrases alternate back and forth.

What about the ruby slippers? Each time Dorothy speaks her ruby slippers light up. This is made possible by the the small holes in the top of Dorothy's feet. In each foot their is a very tiny bulb that lights up red when you push Dorothy's button. The red light glows through the ruby slippers and their you have it, glowing ruby slippers.

Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz requires three replaceable AG13 or LR44 alkaline button cell batteries. These batteries are included and have already been installed. When you take her from the box Dorothy is ready to start talking, and making those ruby slippers light up!

Hannah really likes her Dorothy Barbie and since her daddy bought her the Glinda doll she plays with both of them together. Hannah acts out little scenes from the movie, by having the dolls talk back and forth to each other with their little phrases. In fact last night Hannah even requested to watch the movie again and kept looking at the dolls while she watched the movie; she had such a look of amazement on her face when the movie characters said the same things that the dolls say. I had to rewind and replay those scenes a few times before she would finish watching the movie. The whims of a five year old!! I get quickly tired of hearing the doll repeatedly saying the same thing over and over and over again, and had to go into another room. Many times when she plays with Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz I ask Hannah to play in her room. It is not that the doll is loud, I just can't take the repetition, I think it would have been better if the doll said several phrases instead of just two.

In my doll buying (kind of collector's) opinion, if you plan on purchasing any of the Wizard of Oz Barbie's I would recommend that you buy Barbie As Dorothy From The Wizard of Oz and Barbie As Glinda From the Wizard Of Oz, to me they are two dolls that go together.

Thank you for reading ~ Cyndi ~
