bops_mom's Full Review: Bare Escentuals 7 Layer Cake Body Wash
On my last trip to Marshalls (discount store) I really hit the bath/body jack pot as I stated in this review. The other product I was thrilled to find and purchase that day was Bare Escentuals 7-Layer Cake Body Wash. The name is dead on for the scent, let me tell ya.
About the product
Bare Escentuals 7-layer cake Body Wash is packaged in a typical plastic bottle with easy flip top cap for dispensing. The bottle holds 8.5 fl. Oz. of product and retails, I believe, for $8. I got my bottles at the fabulous price of $3.99. I know Bare Escentuals also makes (or made) a matching body lotion as I spotted a rather icky, opened up/spilled bottle of it at Marshalls.
The bottle is cute in various shades of pink with a 3 layer wedding type cake on the front. The product itself is a cream colored gel.
From the bottle: A Slice of Life . Face it, love. We all lead busy lives full of tension, worry and responsibility. Take time to stop and celebrate the little things in life. Make a vow never to pass up on cake this good ever again.
Save a slice of this rich, creamy-vanilla body frosting. Indulge your senses daily with this cleansing body wash in your bath or shower for clean, smooth, and beautifully fragranced skin. A nourishing combination of natural botanicals, vitamins and plant based moisturizers dish up a scrumptious body dessert. Skin-soothing extracts of chamomile, elderflower, hibiscus, calendula and comfrey help calm skin while you cleanse.
My Take on the 7-Layer Cake Body Wash
Im a big fan of Bare Escentuals body products and some of their makeup products. So just spotting some BE products at Marshalls of all places was a small thrill. With the name alone of 7-Layer Cake I was a gonner the price of $3.99 made it even easier for me to pick up both bottles that were sitting there.
The scent is pretty amazing if you like sweet, foody, vanilla type scents. This isnt a plain sweet or vanilla scent though its more complex than many scents out there. I wish I could say exactly what scents are in there, but its almost like walking into a bakery with all the fabulous smells mix together and just smell like wonderful, baked goodies. It is wonderful, delicious and unlike any other foody body product Ive ever smelled or used. The scent in the shower is divine and it does last on my skin, ever so slightly for part of the day. It is very light, though and to many may be undetectable.
The product itself is a gel as I mentioned and I dont find it the least bit creamy as BE would lead you to believe in their over the top description (see above quote from bottle). It doesnt really take a lot of the product on my bath pouf to make up plenty of lather to satisfy my bubble loving self. The body wash does rinse off easily and clean and my skin is left feeling nice, though a bit dry. Its really no wonder my normal to dry skin is left feeling a little dry for the first 3 ingredients in this product are: water, ammonium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. It doesnt leave me flaky, it just doesnt leave my skin feeling as soft and smooth as more creamy and hydrating body washes do.
I do have pretty sensitive skin and have not encountered any problems with the use of Bare Escentuals 7-Layer Cake Body Wash.
And so
I am very glad I found this product at Marshalls; the price was very right at $3.99 though I dont think the retail price of $8 is really over the top. Its pretty usual for bath products from mid range brands. I actually like that the bottle is smaller than The Body Shops and Philosophys usual sizes a small bottle is easier to find a place for in the shower. I am not sure if Bare Escentuals has discontinued this product or not (you never know when you find things at Marshalls) but if you enjoy sweet, vanilla foody scented bath products and can find it, I definitely recommend you give Bare Escentuals 7-Layer Cake Body Wash a try.
