moonsista's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Clear Radiance Face Color
As I've said before, if I have to decide between buying groceries and buying makeup and other beauty products, it's not going to be an easy decision to make. We all need to eat, of course - but women need beauty products too! And like a lot of women, I like to try different brands of beauty products. Bare Escentuals is one of the first high-end brands that I tried and fell in love with right away. When I discovered that Bare Escentuals had a new highlighting powder on the market, Clear Radiance, I had to try it. I had visions of glowing, healthy-looking skin and immediately ordered my own little pot!
Product Details:
Clear Radiance is a finely-milled, translucent, pearly pink highlighting powder that is made of pure, crushed minerals. It will remind you of Revlon Skinlights Face Illuminator powder, but is not as sparkly. It is not a pale pink really, but more of a light, flesh-colored pink. It does have some shimmer, but all of the powder is not shimmery - while the powder itself is pearly, there are micro-tiny flecks of shimmer that are also pink.
Clear Radiance comes in a .03 oz. pot with a screw-on lid and a sifter top. The sifter top is a plastic, removable covering that has holes in it for the powder to come through.
Clear Radiance sometimes also comes in a .02 oz. size with no sifter top in special "collections" that Bare Escentuals offers - these collections contain smaller size of certain products so that consumers can try out a variety of products at a reduced price.
My Experience:
I really do like the effect that I get from using Revlon Skinlights Face Illuminator powder but sometimes it makes my skin look too sparkly and shimmery - especially if I haven't used it sparingly enough. So I was happy to find Clear Radiance - maybe it was going to be less sparkly and easier to use.
The way that I use Clear Radiance is over my foundation and loose face powder. I wouldn't even try to use it under my foundation because there would be no way, in my opinion, that it would stay on my face and not mix with my foundation. If you use Bare Escentuals foundation, however, this may be an option to try, since it is also made of crushed minerals.
The first thing I do when applying Clear Radiance is to shake the little pot it comes in just a little. I take the lid off and use just what is clinging to the inside of the lid. If it isn't enough, there is always some sitting on top of the sifter top, and I then dip my brush into that and use just that much. The next step is to swirl the face brush (face brushes are a personal choice, but I love Bare Escentuals' Kabuki Brush for this purpose) into the powder, trying to distribute the powder evenly onto the brush. I then swirl it onto my face as evenly as possible. I start out very sparingly (because I'm afraid of the over-application factor!) and apply more as needed. If my skin looks particularly dull, I might apply more in order to give it a little more of a glow.
You should end up with a healthy glow when you are done. I love the pearly pink look of Clear Radiance - it is similar to other highlighting powders on the market, but it's still the most finely-milled and non-irritating, in my opinion.
Over-application is easy to achieve and will definitely result in a look that is too pink and too sparkly. While the shimmer in this product is subtle, you can still apply too much. If you have oily skin, I would apply this product sparingly so that it doesn't make skin even more shiny.
Most skin tones should be able to use Clear Radiance, but I'm not so sure that especially dark tones will be able to pull off the pearly pink look, no matter how sparingly it's applied. I think this product is meant for light to medium skin tones only.
There are several other ways that you can use Clear Radiance: On the shoulders for a subtle glow, as a wet or dry eyeshadow to brighten up the eyes, over lipstick for a shimmery effect, or dip a lip balm into Clear Radiance for a gloss with a hint of shimmer.
So How Does This Product Differ From "Glee", Bare Escentuals' Other Highlighter?
Glee is a non-shimmery, non-pearly, medium mauve-y, rosey powder that makes you look like you are happy, flushed and blushing. It also gives you a healthy glow (and can be applied to cheeks, forehead, chin, lips, etc.), but is a less subtle, less translucent and completely different glow than Clear Radiance. Women with very pale skin may be unable to wear Glee because of its medium tone, but should be able to wear Clear Radiance.
