| moonsista's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Eye Glimmer |
I first got introduced to the Bare Escentuals line when I sent away for a free Bare Escentuals Glimmer through Marie Claire magazine about three years ago. When it arrived, I absolutely loved it! It was a full-size pot of Glimmer and was the perfect shade for me! Shortly after I received that free Glimmer, I started seeing their products sold on QVC (the TV shopping channel). Since then I have tried other Bare Escentuals products and have loved nearly all of them!
Who Is Bare Escentuals?
Bare Escentuals is a line of unique cosmetics, skincare, bath and body products and fragrances. Their products are not sold in everyday stores, but are sold in their own boutiques (located in CA, GA, PA, CO and MO), on QVC, through their TV infomercial and through their toll-free telephone number.
About Glimmer:
Glimmer is a loose, powdered, shimmery eyeshadow. It is from Bare Escentuals' ID Bare Minerals line of cosmetics. These are cosmetics made from pure, crushed minerals. That's exactly what is in Glimmer - pure, crushed minerals! Bare Escentuals claims that these cosmetics are "free of preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance and other potential irritants."
Glimmer comes in a little plastic pot that measures .75" high and 1.5" wide. The pot itself is clear plastic and has a screw-on black plastic lid. There is no sifter or other device on the top of this pot - once you take the lid off, you're faced with a wide-open pot of Glimmer.
There is .06 oz. of Glimmer in each pot - this is more than enough to last you for a few years, especially if you get addicted to this stuff and want several shades!
The following shades are shown on the company's website at www.bareminerals.com:
*2000* *1960's* *1990's* *Celestine* *Bare Skin* *True Gold*
*Queen Tiffany* *Socialite* *Pussycat*
The following additional shades are also available, and can be purchased through QVC (the TV shopping channel) or at their website, iqvc.com:
*Devotion* *Fantasy* *Desire* *Ecstasy* *Nude Beach* *Gigi* *Drama* *Tan Lines* *Lust* *Envy* *Emotion* *Here Kitty* *Catwoman* *Purrfect* *Sex Kitten* *Queen Phyllis* *Queen Linda* *Beautiful Autumn* Beautiful Susan* *Madras* *Mystic* *Blue Moon* *Moonstruck* *Bloom* *Wildflower* *Bloom* *Sunshine* *Azure* *RosePearl* *Cultured Pearl* *Bikini* *Heart* *Wild Debra* *Wild Dawn* *Wild Sarah* *Wild Melissa* *Black Pearl* *Antique Pearl** Liberty* *Precious*
You can also, at times, find at QVC, a set of three seasonal shades of Glimmer at a reduced cost. Sometimes these sets include an eyeshadow brush as well.
My Experience:
I own Glimmer in five shades at this time. They are: Blue Moon, which is a light blue shade; Moonstruck, which is a white shade; Madras, which is a bronzey gold shade; Summer, which is a bronzey tan shade; and 2000, which is a very pale blue shade.
Before I say anything else about Glimmer, I want to say that you will get much farther with this product if you use an eyeshadow base. A good one to use is Origins' Underwear For Lids. This allows the Glimmer to cling to the lids better, letting less dust off onto your cheeks! Using a base also prevents it from dusting into your eyes, which can be a real problem, especially for contact lens wearers.
Applying Glimmer is easy. I use an angled eyeshadow brush. Before removing the lid of the pot, I first tap the top to make any "clinging" shadow fall into the pot. Then I take the lid off the pot and dip my brush into the lid. There is a small amount that is still clinging to the lid. A little goes a long way - I just dip the brush into the lid, tap the brush and then sweep it onto my eyelid.
Not using an eyeshadow base allows some of the Glimmer to dust onto my cheeks - I hate this. Using a base eliminates this problem almost entirely.
Wearing Glimmer is not going to give you screaming, sparkling eyelids. This product looks less glittery on the eyelids than it does in the pot. When I first received the shade 2000, I was disappointed to see how glittery it was. But the sparkle really reduces when it's applied to the eyelids, and is much more refined. Also, some shades seem to be more glittery than others. I would say that 2000 is one of the more glittery shades.
Wearing Glimmer really brightens your eyes. It's probably more of an evening or special occasion shadow than it is a daytime shadow, but I wear mine to work and to lots of other places because the shimmer isn't that sparkly.
Glimmer will last on your eyelids for hours if you use an eyeshadow base. I have had Glimmer fade from my eyelids quite a bit within 4 to 6 hours when I haven't used a base.
Who Can Wear This?
I have normal to dry skin - and have experienced no problems wearing Glimmer. If you have oily skin and glimmery shadows are normally a problem for you, you may experience the same problems with Glimmer.
Price and Purchasing Information:
Each pot of Glimmer is $13.00 and is well worth it. Because there is so much in one pot, it will last you a very long time.
I recommend purchasing this product from QVC the first time you try it because of their 30-day satisfaction guaranteed return policy. Also, once you purchase Bare Escentuals products from QVC, you will get occasional Bare Escentuals catalogs from them, with free shipping offers.
Check out bareescentuals.com and bareminerals.com for more information on this product as well as many other products and to find out how to order.
