News Flash: According to the BareEscentuals Website This product was chosen by Allure, InStyle, Elle and Glamour as the "Best Foundation" of 2009...........
The idea of using "minerals" was hard for me to accept. I had seen the demonstrations on QVC when it first came out. I've glanced at the infomercials from time to time. Just never took an interest or thought it was something I'd use. I guess I kept thinking about the huge glass bottle of Estee' Lauder demi matte face powder that I bought ages ago. That made me look ghostly--like I covered my face in talcum powder.
One day while searching for free samples online, I actually came across an offer for a sample of Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals foundation in the shade Medium Beige. I did have to pay $4 for shipping, but it was fun to give it a try. I also liked the fact that the product has a Sun Protection Factor of 15.
The sample came with a small tan brush to use to appy the product. I have since purchased the full size product, so will continue to refer to the full size item in my review. The product comes in a 0.3 ounce (9 grams) pot. While that sounds tiny, I believe it will last for quite some time because this stuff goes a long way. The foundation also comes in a matte finish. Mine is simply the foundation.
The medium beige is the perfect color for me. I often have difficulty choosing the correct color ( I sometimes go too light). If you use the bareEscentuals website, It is extremely helpful in determining your shade. First you will see women to exemplify the particular color. First you choose your shade family. Light, Medium, Tan, Dark or Deep. Then you choose between neutral, tan or golden. Clear definitaions are given for each of these terms, again, along with a picture. Then, you will see your perfect shade. I like this!
Once you have the correct color, I think the brush you use will be very important since you are "buffing" the product into your skin. I continue to use the sample brush provided with my sample product. i believe a brush purchase from Bare Escentuals would be worthwhile.
Once you unscrew the cap, you will peel off a sticker that reveals many tiny holes on a plastic insert. You must tap the product through these holes into the jar's cap. This helps to keep too much of the minerals from escaping. Then swirl the brush into the cap to gather the minerals. In a circular motion you brush, or buff it into the skin.
I love the lightness of this product. It definitely is not a heavy cover. The minerals feel super light and blend extremely well into the skin. I did not, however, find that imperfections were being covered. But what I did notice, after applying makeup and looking at my face as a whole, is that there is a nice smooth tone to my skin. There is NO powder residue. My complexion somehow looked really even and fresh. The coverage is very lovely. There is also absolutely no uneveness or "line" as you might see with liquid foundation. When applying the product, though, I'm not quite sure when enough is enough because the look is so subtle.
I liked the product enough that I ordered the Mineral Veil that seems to add a nice glow to my skin. I use this over the foundation.
As the hours pass, I do think I get a bit of geasiness to my skin. I thought that was weird since this is a powder, but my sister said the same exact thing.
I paid too much because I got tempted by a 20% off code from the bareescentuals website. but by the time the shipping and tax was factored in, I paid $22. Think Ebay would have been a better way to go.
I'd say give this product a try. If you're used to heavy cream foundations, you might find this a pleasant, comfortable change. If you NEED a heavy coverage foundation, I'd say go with the Mineral Veil instead and use the Mineral Veil over your own foundation.
