Get Started Kit - Fairly Light/Light ($181 Value)

WHAT IT IS
A kit of the basic products so that you can try out Bare Minerals without committing to too many products and to a huge investment! It's the basics - a skin conditioner, two foundations which also work as a cover-up, a "blush" which can also be used as an eye shadow, a finishing "powder", and a set of brushes.

MY EXPERIENCE
After watching the infomercial for literally two years I finally walked into a Sephora store and saw the Bare Escentuals Kit. Being able to see it and not be locked into a club where I had to purchase every few months like the TV version, I decided what the heck, I’d try it. Boy, am I glad I did! I LOVE the product!

Purchasing the kit gave me the opportunity to purchase a sample of the product that had two colors of the foundation so I could find the perfect one for me – both turned out to be perfect for me depending on the time of the year – and allowed me to own all of the brushes that I needed. It also gave me the confidence to add on to my kit as I became more familiar with the products. My kit was an older kit and it didn’t include bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper, and it’s a product I’ve not used, so I can’t speak to that piece. I’ve read reviews that it’s a fabulous product, so I may try it in the future, but for now, I don’t have any first hand experience.

Mineral Veil is one of my favorite products. It’s the last thing you put on your face and it’s sort of like a magic eraser or the soft focus on a camera. It takes away any hard make-up edge and erases any pores you may have. It is truly magical. It appears a pale shade of pink in the jar but it’s clear and worn by every color skin tone. It “melts” into your skin without causing any skin irritation.

Warmth used to be a favorite but now I love Glee. That said, this kit comes with Warmth which is used to color your face where the sun would kiss it. Use it on your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, your temple, your jaw line. It’s a rusty color that again looks great on every skin tone. It's not a blush, it's sheerer than a typical blush and adds a tint of color.

• The brushes are another place where Bare Escentuals excels. The feel expensive, but they’re not. This kit includes three brushes: Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush for applying foundation as concealer or eye shadow; the Full Coverage Kabuki Brush for applying foundation or Warmth when you need a deeper coverage; and the Flawless Application Brush for a light dusting of foundation, Warmth, or Mineral Veil.

The brushes are fabulous but you need to take care of them. My first set were ruined quickly because first I was smashing them into the lids of the makeup and then smashing them onto my face. Be gentle. You don’t have to be so hard on yourself. Lightly swirl the brushes and your face and your brush will thank you. Also, purchase the brush shampoo and clean and condition them. They’ll last longer and stay softer that way.

I never used the included DVD as I’d watched the infomercial many times, but it’s there if you need instructions.

I found the kit didn’t wear evenly. I ran out of Mineral Veil long before Warmth and the foundations because I had two foundations, but it didn’t matter, as again, it was a great way to try them out. When I found the pieces I liked I replaced them with full size products. I found the instead of Warmth I preferred Glee, a rose color. It suited my skin tone better. I’ve purchased different kits since then because sometimes they have additional pieces I want to try and the price it better than buying them individually. I just give away the pieces I don’t want or sell them on eBay.

All-in-all it's a great way to try out the line. I've got my mom and sister hooked on the product now by purchasing them kits for Christmas. At $60 they're reasonably priced gifts and they work for nearly every woman.
