moonsista's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss
Bare Escentuals is one of my favorite cosmetic companies. Their products are high quality and unique. I love so many of their products and once I get on a Bare Escentuals kick, look out. I first discovered Bare Escentuals about five years ago when watching the founder of the company, Leslie Blodgett, selling her cosmetics and bath and body products on QVC. I ordered a few things and was hooked! I'm still in the process of trying everything. The latest product I put to the test is Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss.
About Bare Escentuals:
Bare Escentuals was founded in 1976 by Leslie Blodgett. Her revolutionary bareMinerals line of makeup consists of cosmetics comprised of 100% pure, crushed minerals. You may have heard that Bare Escentuals makeup is so pure, "you can sleep in it". Within the Bare Escentuals line is the i.d. makeup line, which includes lipstick, lip liner, mascara, skin preps, application brushes and more. The Lip Gloss I am reviewing today is in this i.d. line.
Lip Gloss Product Details:
Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss comes in a 4.25" long, clear matte plastic tube with a silver cap/wand that screws onto the tube. Attached to the wand is a fuzzy-tipped applicator.
There is .28 oz. of gloss in each tube.
Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss comes in an insane array of shades. Some of these can be seen at Sephora.com: Gossamer, Allure, Barefoot, Clear Tangerine, Garden, Glee, Harp, Ice Pop, Lollipop, Muse, Crystalline, Nude, Rosie, Whimsy, Pink, Garden, Pearl, Sugar, Truffle, Cinnamon, Sheer Cherry, Sheer Violet, Spice, Sweet Pink, True, Wearable Melon, Wearable Nude, Wearable Pink and Wearable Wine. There may be other shades available at different times and also limited edition shades that come in sets that are exclusive to some retailers such as QVC from time to time.
My Experience:
I'm always so excited about a new Bare Escentuals product. My latest purchase was the Bare Escentuals Goddess kit from QVC that included a Lip Gloss, a loose powder blush, a Glimpse (a somewhat sparkly powder eyeshadow), a Heavenly Face powder brush, an eyeshadow brush, an eye liner blending brush, a liner shadow (a loose powder eye liner), a Lip Bud (a sheer lip semi-gloss stick), Gossamer Face Color (all-over glowing powder), a lip liner and a Glimmer (a sparkly powder eyeshadow). I was most excited about trying the Lip Gloss from this fabulous kit, as I had been wanting to try it for quite a long time.
Both the name and the packaging of Lip Gloss are simplistic. I expected Bare Escentuals' gloss to have a special name - but it's called "Lip Gloss." OK. Very anti-climactic. The packaging is just like other lip gloss tubes - cylindrical. OK. Again - very anti-climactic.
The shade that came in my Bare Escentuals Goddess kit is Gossamer, which is a clear gloss with lots of silver shimmer pieces that are so tiny you can't really see them. It's more of just a glimmery clear gloss because these shimmer pieces are so small. I was excited to try the Gossamer shade by itself as well as over lipstick.
The first way that I tried Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss was to apply it by itself. The look of the Gossamer shade is that of a clear gloss with a hint of clear, silvery sparkle. I don't like it alone because it just makes my lips look shiny and a bit glimmery. Wearing it over lipstick is the best way for me to wear this particular shade because it's nearly clear. It gives any lipstick a shiny, somewhat glimmery look.
Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss has a great tube and wand, despite its everyday boring appearance. Somehow, the wand grabs just enough gloss when the wand is pulled out of the tube. This makes for non-messy application and a non-messy gloss tube. This is a big plus in my book. The gloss is non-sticky and applies easily to bare lips or over lipstick. Once applied, the gloss is smooth and feels comfortable. The shimmer pieces, while very plentiful, are not big enough to feel, therefore this gloss is non-gritty.
The wear of Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss is average. It's maybe a bit longer-wearing than an average drugstore gloss, but it's still not as long-wearing as it could/should be. I get about 30 minutes of wear from each application. It lasts a bit longer when worn over lipstick, but alone it's about 20 to 30 minutes. I was hoping that since Bare Escentuals' cosmetics are usually so outstanding, that the performance of their gloss would be along the lines of MAC Lipglass, but disappointingly, they're not. I plan to try some of the other shades of this gloss, to see how the more pigmented shades perform. But until then, this gloss, to me, is more of an average gloss with average wear.
Price and Purchasing Information:
Bare Escentuals Lip Gloss is $14.00 and can be found at Bare Escentuals boutiques (see BareEscentuals.com for more information) as well as Sephora brick and mortar stores. Online, it can be purchased at QVC.com and Sephora.com.
QVC offers a few sets of two pre-selected lip glosses for $21.00, which is a great deal. The Bare Escentuals Goddess kit I purchased from QVC is no longer available there (but is available at Sephora.com), but QVC will have a new, limited edition QVC-exclusive Bare Escentuals kit coming up on June 8, 2005. Tune into QVC that day, visit QVC.com or call QVC at 1-800-345-1515 for details.
