Jury is still out on this one . . .

Written: Dec 30 '03
Pros:Makes my skin feel healthier, less made-up, softer
Cons:Coverage isn't always adequate, too much mess and waste with containers, too pricey.
The Bottom Line: If you can afford it, try it. You may get outstanding results, or may find it just average, but it's certainly not a BAD product.

I have been using the entire Bare Minerals product line (foundation, warmth, and veil) for about 8 months now, and I must honestly say that I go back and forth on whether or not I love it. When I first received the products I thought I had died and gone to heaven....my face looked great, felt great, and I knew this stuff was "healthier" for my skin. After a few months the "novelty" started to wear off and I started to question if the product was really that good, or if my skin had just looked great because it was summertime. I decided to dig out my old make up for a few days and stop using the Bare Minerals. As I left the house in the morning, I thought "ok, this looks good, too" and was starting to doubt that I'd ever pay the expensive price of BM again. I spent the morning in the office, and as I got into my car at lunchtime I glanced in the mirror: ewwwwwwwww! My face looked horrible! The old make-up looked splotchy, cakey, and uneven, and I looked totally artificial and "made up". I tried to freshen up during lunch and went back to the office. Again when I glanced at my rear-view mirror upon going home for the day, I was taken aback again by how awful my skin looked. I started singing the praises of Bare Minerals again, and threw away my old make-up.

Couple of more months go by, and I start experimenting. I wondered if maybe the Veil portion of the kit was nothing special, and instead of re-ordering, started using the Bare Minerals blush and application technique with the old-fashioned cake, compact type of powder. Hmmmmmm, that looked pretty good. I started doing that for about two weeks, but then noticed that my face was again not looking great. I went back to the Bare Minerals veil, and noticed how much smoother, softer, and healthier my skin looked.

Bottom line? I'm still not sure if it's the Bare Minerals that makes my face look good, or if it's just a matter of timing and coincidence. Being 47 years old, my body and skin are going through changes, so perhaps it has nothing to do with the make-up. Maybe it's more a matter of my hormone levels, health, and the moisturizers I use. I also live in New England, so seasons and weather play a part in my skin condition. I truly don't know if Bare Minerals is the miracle solution they claim it to be, but I am sure that it is a good product. Good enough to keep paying the high cost? I'm not sure. I will continue to have it on hand since it's definitely a quality product, but I can't say I will use it exclusively for the rest of my life.
