| KMINER's Full Review: Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil Powder |
I use a number of types of foundation on my face - but only one powder for the past year - Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil. It is to me, by far, one of the best products on the market. This products works so amazingly well that I have waited a long time to have the opportunity to talk about all of its raves.
How I Came To Find Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil
Having access to only a few cosmetic lines I have taken advice from friends who often see a larger volume of products. Often these friends tell me about a product or product line, and samples are also often given. Additionally, beauty sites have been created to allow those interested the opportunity to talk about products they love and hate in their area. Additionally, for this specific line, I had seen promotions/infomericals for Bare Escentuals products often on QVC.
Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil is a product I often had read about with mostly favorable reviews that additionally was just the type of product I was looking for. I needed a loose powder to "set" my foundation and make a more matte look. I also wanted a translucent powder that would not provide any additional color to my face. I found it hard in my search to find a product that was not irritating, oily after a few hours, easy to use, and truely color free. Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil is only 1 of 2 that I feel works for me.
Leslie Blodgett created a "revolutionary line of makeup created by San Francisco-based Bare Escentuals. Since 1976, Bare Escentuals has been leading the cosmetic industry with its makeup made from 100% pure micronized minerals free of preservatives, oil, fragrance, talc and other potential irritants." Tell Me More About Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil
Mine came in a .47 ounce ounces pot with black screw off lid (I bought it for about $15 off Ebay). The pot itself is plastic and see through and allows you to see the level of powder. The powder itself is loose and very light. It feels a little soft but not silky. It sticks to the brush well and leave a very nice, polished matte, lightly powdered look. It doesn't look cakey, doesn't look too overdone, and doesn't settle into my pores. It looks great over any foundation I have tried (powder, liquid, cream to powder, oil free, etc).
To use it is recommended to "buff" it into the skin - meaning to get a little powder onto the brush, tap the excess off, swirl into the black lid to rub the product into the brush (I use a Bare Escentuals powder brush for this) and swirl onto your face in wide circles. That's just what I do, that's just what the product recommends, and it works quite well.
Bare Escentuals states:
"Mineral Veil is your final step to achieving bareSkin beauty. Buffed lightly over your bareMinerals Foundation, Mineral Veil gives a translucent finishing touch without the buildup or layering of pressed or loose powders that contain talc, waxes, dyes and binders. It morphs into your skin, infusing it with softness and light, giving the beautiful illusion you achieve with a soft-focus camera lens. Mineral Veil gives you back the skin you were born with.
Completely translucent to work for all skin tones, Mineral Veil gently absorbs oil and heat, while minimizing the appearance of pores. Buff on Mineral Veil over your bareMinerals or Warmth to lend extra staying power."
So Does Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil Work For You?
Very well. It is one of my favorite loose powders - as mentioned, one of the top 2. It looks great on, and feels wonderful. It makes my face very matte and soft looking and also covers well. It lasts all day, with a little oil shining through in T Zone area.
Though it looks and performs great and I really adore it, it does have a few drawbacks, mostly cosmetic. Most of these problems Bare Escentuals have fixed - Way to go BE!The packaging used to come in a loose, open pot, with no sifter. I was deathly afraid I was going to drop it and lose all my powder. Also this packaging did make it not ideal to get the powder - often I got too much on the brush and had to shake off the excess, which is annoying. They have since released new packaging with a sifter, and I am in heaven.
In The End
I really really enjoy Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil and have really enjoyed using the pot that I have. It's the only loose powder I have purchased over and over again. After initial use of a similar powder by Laura Mercier, I am totally loving and preferring the Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil - it is my true Holy Grail - something I absolutely cannot be without!
Though I may not buy into the whole "minerals" line, I certainly think this product more than warrants a try. You can buy this many places on-line, at a Bare Escentuals store, at Ulta, and now recently Sephora has begun selling Bare Escentials products.
