Pros: Great taste, very inexpensive, convenient travel size bottles, sweet and distinguished.
Cons: The name "barefoot" associated with something you ingest.
The Bottom Line: You might just be surprised by the great taste of this white zinfandel considering its price. I strongly suggest that you give Barefoot's line of wines a try.
luxuryliners's Full Review: Barefoot White Zinfandel 187ml
Introduction
Always in search of great, cheap, red wine, I jumped at the chance to try Barefoot Cellars 2006 white zinfandel when I saw it selling for only $3.99 a container.
Description
Barefoot wines offers this 187 ml, California, red wine in a four-pack of glass bottles. The classic pink coloration and sweet taste are unmistakable characteristics of a white zinfandel. Upon unscrewing the pink cap, an aroma of a combination of fruits greets the drinker. I understand the gimmick of stomping grapes and slogan "Get barefoot and have a great time!" but something about the picture of a foot on the bottle is still somewhat troubling.

Taste
Upon unscrewing the pink cap, the pleasant aroma of a combination of fruits greets the drinker. I served my bottle at a chilling 50 degrees but slightly warmer may be advisable. With the first sip, a strong blast of initial fruit flavor descends on the palate. My concerns that the wine might be too alcoholic tasting were quickly relieved; the alcohol taste is there but serves nicely to add a bit of bite to the drink. Being that this is among the lowest cost wines I've purchased, I was surprised to find how delicious it is. I really enjoy sweet wines and this product is very sweet and fruity. I liken it to some more highly priced, sweet, white wines but with more flavor and body. Good thing it comes in small bottles or I might get carried away as the wine goes down easily.
Final Thoughts
I highly recommend this white zinfandel for its low price and unexpectedly great taste. The wine itself is slightly clearer than some of its competitors but the taste is similar or superior, and 9.5% alcohol content seems below average. The lower price easily makes up for any shortcomings with Beringer's white zinfandel that I've also reviewed. The bright pink carrying case with a picture of a large, white, footprint should be easy to locate in the "alternative packaging" section of your local grocery or liquor store.
