Pros:Barney, Didn't re-write songs
Cons:Short, Boring, Doesn't teach anything
The Bottom Line: Entertaining songs and nursery rhymes for young child who are Barney fans.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals everything about the movie's plot.

The lovable Barney who is a talking/singing/dancing purple dinosaur sings nursery rhymes with 3-4 children and Mother Goose.

This magical dinosaur has captured my daughter's heart completely. We added this video to our collection months ago and she still enjoys watching it (which isn't saying much because she still likes every one of the Barney tapes).

What the Video is About
Three young children and Barney are in the classroom when they hear Mother Goose's voice coming out of a nursery rhyme book. They determine that the book had a book worm that chewed up all of the pages. The children used their imagination and sang a song to get Mother Goose out of the book. (Mother Goose is an older lady dressed in a bonnet and old-fashion dress).

Mother Goose sings a song describing who she is and what a rhyme is. The children recommend that she re-write the nursery rhymes but she said she couldn't remember them. The children encourage her and wanted to say them aloud so Mother Goose could write them down. They start with nursery rhymes and puzzles (Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater, Humpty Dumpty, etc.) then break out in song and dance. They sang all of the traditional rhymes while acting them out. Ole King Kole, Little Miss Muffet, 3 little kittens, etc. They take turns with a tongue twisters Peter Piper and Mother Goose is the only one that could do it. After they sang all of the rhymes they could think of they sent Mother Goose back into the book.

At the end Barney speaks directly to the viewer and recaps what they did in the video and what they should have learned from it. In conclusion, Barney encouraged the children to read a book and use their imagination.

Physical Aspects
I have this on VHS. The tape is white which I have noticed is common for Barney movies. At the age of 1 my daughter knew which movies were hers and which were her brother's based solely on the color.

This video is 30 minutes long released in 1993. The box says ages 1-8 but all the 7 and 8 year olds that hang out over here hate barney so I don't know why they have such a high age group.

Where to Buy
Since this is an older movie it may be difficult to find in the local stores. I'd definitely recommend purchasing on half.com or Ebay because they are offering them at a price you can't beat! They are starting to bring Barney to DVD but I have not seen this one on DVD yet, so I don't know if it is or not.

My Thoughts
Since I have to hear these all day I'll have to say that this is the first time that they didn't take a song and change all the words to it! The most interesting part of the movie is trying to say Peter Piper Picked A Peck....

This is the least-imaginative Barney video that I have ever seen. I really don't think they spent much time or money on it.

Unlike most of Barney's videos, this one doesn't really "teach" the child anything. There are no morals or lessons to be learned from this episode. They do sing all of the traditional nursery rhymes that we learned as a child. If nothing else, they will be able to recognize the rhymes when they read them in a book.

My daughter usually jumps around, clap, dance, and try to sing along. She does not do anything but quietly watch this one. Her favorite kids were not on this video. I don't know the names of the kids that were on this tape but we've never seen them before (No BJ and Baby Bop either). She did sing the 3 little kittens yesterday after the movie was over. I think that she has some other videos she would rather recommend to other toddlers instead of this one.

I'm going to recommend this because there's no whining, fighting, jealousy, battles, problems to solve or any of the garbage that is in other non-barney shows. This is easy-viewing for toddler with no bad habits to pick up from repeat viewing. Unfortunately, I know this won't be a favorite of any Barney follower.
