Good burgers or no burgers. This Marina yuppie favorite makes you wait. I have been there many a time, lured in by the big burgers and yummy curly fries. But I can stand it no more!!!
The service here is awful. Not just awful, but consistently and continuously awful. On it's busiest days, there will be two waitresses, who are barely intelligent enough to realize that maybe you need a menu and maybe you want to order in this century!!!
While I'll admit that the curly fries kick ass, the burgers are not worth this kind of wait. Served in a variety of ways, the burgers are large but can tend to be burned when you ask for "medium." The bacon they use must be from pigs about 100 years old b/c the bacon is more like beef jerky. The turkey burgers are pretty good as well, served in the same ways as the burgers. And there are options for the vegetarians as well.
But there is no way that I'm going to let this place continuously be overrated as "the best burger in the city" as touted by the Chronicle. While I know there are a lot of you out there that disagree with me, there can be no denying that the service sucks. Plus, the decor is lacking, with tables that always rock and a stench from the bathroom that permeates the entire back end of the restaurant.
If you want to be the Marina yuppie wanna-be, then enjoy your burger at Barney's. But if you're like me, and you think that if you're a paying customer that maybe you should get some service accordingly, then drop this loser. No burger is worth it (except maybe In n' Out).
