Thanks for pointing this out to me, Pam. I didn't realize when I posted this review that this is the audio version. In the past I've seen the topics for the text and audio version of the books merged under the same topic. I'm going to bet that this is what will happen here, and not move my review. You are entirely correct with your rating though. Thanks for your attention to detail. I've filed a merge request with epinions.

all the best,

I have the audio version of all 3 of the Bartimaeus Trilogy. They are read by Simon Jones. He is one awesome reader -you find yourself immersed in the listening of this book!

I believe that this review belongs in the other Golem's Eye category.

Thanks, pesty. I often second-guess myself when it comes to judging books for young readers. It's hard for me to put myself in the mindframe of a tween reader, but it's also hard for me to let go of my standards for adult fiction. I guess what I end up with is a more lenient attitude towards these books. I figure that the kids won't be as critical as I am of the writing style or the character development.

all the best,

Kate

Was visiting with a middle school class and one young lady was reading everything by Stroud and absolutely loved this series. Nice review.
