Yes, I fell asleep and woke up when I crunched the thermometer. I made a mad dash for the bathroom to wash my mouth out. Funny thing about bone conduction - you hear things you're chewing on LOUD and clear. I decided accuracy was less important than safety. I learned about some of the other options later.

did you really bite the thermometer and get mercury in your mouth? That really scared me. I agree that glass thermometers are the best but I do know my brother used to bite them when he was little. he never broke one though.

Thanks for sharing this informative review and be careful with biting that thermometer.

There is a section on infertility -- that might be the best place to write about the Billings method. Or I could write two, since I've used it to plan for pregnancy and to avoid pregnancy. I think there's a section on birth control, as well.

There is a lot of good information here, and I would certainly recommend that anyone using the temp. charting method of fertility control read your thoughts on this.

In case you're interested, in my practice(I was a midwife until baby #2 was 6 months old) we always recommended that the client use the basal thermometer vaginally. It was even more accurate than using it orally, because of the effect that snoring and mouth breathing have on oral temperature.

I also love the Billings method, and I'm glad that you wrote a little about it. Is there a lace for you to write a full review of it?
Yours,

Thanks for the comment. I'll see if I can fix some of that. It is a good thermometer. It is very accurate. It just wasn't the best option for me -- and I should have stated it that way in the review.

Interesting review... (Reply to this comment)

I learned stuff I never knew about ovulation periods... but I just wasn't sure which direction the review was going. You had a great catch paragraph at the beginning that drew me into a review I normally wouldn't have read, but it didn't feel like you were reviewing the thermometer, but more like telling what it was. And then at the end, you gave us an alternative that sounded better, but still rated the thermometer high.

It was an informative review, just a little confusing.

Hope that helps.
