| smallmouth's Full Review: Joseph E. Wallace - Baseball: 100 Classic Moments ... |
The Book:
The idea for this book came from a photograph display at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York in 1997. I can bet that the display was also about 100 great moments in baseball history. The thing that makes this book unique from the display is that it only is concerned with Major League Baseball. The Negro Leagues, Women’s Baseball, Minor League Baseball and other Leagues are all overlooked and set aside.
Another thing that makes this book unique from the photograph display is that it has more room and liberty to fully cover each moment and story. They also added more pictures and information than the display did.
The staff that put this book together and the 100 memories organized the book in five different eras. Before each chapter an essay opens it with the events and an overview of the era. What happened in baseball and what that meant on society in general.
After each essay it goes into the memories that make up the 100 with pictures, quotes, and information.
This is a very unique history book of baseball. I have over 200 baseball books and about half of those are history type. None of those history type books follow the same format as this one, that is what makes it unique and interesting.
Foreword:
The foreword for this book was delivered excellently, like a 100 mph fastball, and who better to deliver a 100 mph fastball than Nolan Ryan.
